Coke is used to mean all soda here. And Band-Aids for all adhesive strips. Kleenex for tissue and Reynolds wrap for tin foil or saran wrap. Elmer's for glue and scotch tape for all clear tape. And several more I can't think of, surely. The deep south is very brand-supportive.

yep. aspirin and heroin were both trademarked products introduced by Bayer in the 1880s/1890s and both trademarks were ruled genericized in court in the 1920s.
