I want to dig Speedy Ortiz but they dont grab me.
I was going to check them out when they played w ex hex (another band I feel I should like but don't) but my kid got sick and I had to go home - I did hear the opening band Flashlights, who I love now. SO is coming by again and I might go. It won't cost much. |

Didn't say it was sexist that's not the point at all.
Just bands with masculine front men sound like Nickleback |

Homme's voice makes it really hard for me to enjoy that band, yes
Masculinity in music is just funny to me I'm sorry |

It's a huge amount of rock vocalists. Rock with a capital R is a genre practically defined by androgyny

a couple of years ago someone asked me "what i thought about girls in rock bands" or something along those lines
i thought it was the stupidest question ever at the time, why would anyone even think about that, i didn't discriminate between portishead, no doubt, kate bush, whoever else i was listening to at the time with bands who had more guys in them or whatever, it was a true "none story" but then ever since that i've been somewhat more aware of it or something there may be an overlap in the "core" energy sometimes but it's more the boundaries or reaches that differ a lot more, when they indeed differ |

homme sings largely in a higher register with relatively common use of falsetto from what i remember
in what world is that stereotypically "masculine" yeah there are some winking jabs at... machismo or something i guess? or whathaveyou, in things like i'm designer, but wow, clearly a fucking joke |

its like sports without good sportsmanship so actually more macho than sports
like i said russ westbrook doesnt bitch abt all the urkels on his team like kanter and waiters, hes always supportive. he plays with pure rage but his teammates arent the target |

general range, so honestly, i don't really know what you're talking about. feel good hit of the summer or something, maybe? or i don't know, i guess leg of lamb is a little lower technically, but far from being "overtly masculine" show some examples or i'll never be convinced! |

It is fitting that a guy called Homme should sound masculine. Would have been more ironic if he hadn't though.
I defintiely find QOTSA too macho for me. Overall, not just vocally. |

You don't think Westbrook goes home and tells his friends he would have won that last game if he was on a better team? Of course he doesn't say things like that at his place of work
