I have never understood this song. Is it supposed to be a “song”? Or a live interlude? Or like a jam? I’ve just never been able to view it as a legit pumpkins song, yet here we are 12 years later, and they’re playing it with James Iha onstage. I guess I’ll say it does seem to work as a segue into Everlasting Gaze in this particular setlist.

IDK what makes or breaks or counts as a "song" for you...

I suppose it doesn't have a chorus, but it has lyrics, and progresses through several different sections, with different riffs. It has a music video.

Totally agree with you. I compare it Jackboot. But just an extended jam with some random ass lyrics thrown in.

Never understood the fascination with this song either. It's just a drawn out jam riding on a dropped D riff.

It's always been a live track for me.

They opened with it in 2007 when I saw them and it was awesome. Never quite packed the same punch with the studio version.

it's basically silverfuck in 6/8. variations of a riff on a D drone and massively awesome jimmy drums.

it was the closest to SP 1 SP 2 sounded to me. that and Gossamer.

Yeah...but they kept at it, and at least we have a basically finalized studio version?

I suppose on one side of a coin these days, we have GLOW, but on the other side there's Superchrist.

It's changed a lot from the days we first started hearing it, and better with each little revision IMHO.

Never cared for it until they added James onto it. Sounds cooler in C tuning. I definitely appreciate it now and think it should be a live staple. I know it’s your typical “JI noise solo” but at least the song has some personality now. It helped me guide through the sections of the song since before the new parts it was just the same basic drop tuning chugging while Jimmy went ham all over the drums. The studio version is definitely unlistenable now and I can’t believe how bad the mixing and production is on the track. Always thought Superchrist was the cooler version of United States. Never could understand the appeal of that song besides the drums (Jimmy always delivers).

I apparently thought the lyrics were “Evolution is solution, right? One solution, one that takes you beyond this life.” and so on, because of how bad Billy’s voice is in not pronouncing consonants. Unfortunately, the actual lyrics are lamer and incoherent.

Yea.

sounds like every live extended jam the band has done since 1996. he just wanted to commit one to tape because of who was playing on it.

It’s a stoner jam. That’s really all it is. And it’s fantastic live, neutered on record like most SP2 recordings.

Although it sounds better today than I remember
Corgan’s vocals are awful, it sounds like she’s just scat
Definitely depressing in a what could have been way, Jimmy’s departure is probably the reason why they moved away from that hippie stoner rock vibe they had
Hell even the video is cool
The second breakdown is also probably the only time other than tarantula he’s bothered to figure out that kinda thing is why we loved SP

Wait I just watched the video for the studio version. It’s kinda cool but why did they add a string section to the song smh

This is the definitive version imho. I love Jimmy's little stick fill on the rack tom during the breakdown.

It's worthy alone for the drums and also for the palm-muted section.

It's just a blast really. Probably took two minutes to write. The only downside are the vocals, but thankfully there aren't too many (and I like the echoed last notes).

This, GLOW, and FOL were a neat little trio of songs, the latter being b-side quality but still nice enough.

I think he meant people didn't like/pay attention to that era music (in general) cause apparently he was done (or do they said) – he seems to think the music was always good.

Imo, the SP2 BC/JC era was good. The production and vox are unforgivable. Most of these songs rocked live

Lol it’s not like we decided bill’s output the last two decades mostly sucked b/c that’s how it was “reported”

In fact, we used our actual ears to make that fucken determination, thx
