why aren't live recordings split into multiple discs anymore
more and more i'm finding that the shows i download are not split onto multiple CDs, but instead just many continuous tracks. why is this?
are people not wanting to bother with fade in/out? do they want us to decide where CD1 ends and CD2 begins? are people not burning shows to CD anymore? how do you handle these recordings? |

hard-drive space is cheaper these days, lots of people don't burn their flacs to CDs anymore. Just playing the whole concert without fades from start to finish is nice.
I just try to split it evenly so each CD has a reasonable amount of music on as few discs as possible. |

i've seen people making the split (with fades, unfortunately) in the middle of the show, just so that each cd would have an equal amount of music. that was a shame. |

yeah let people do their own fades, just circulate the continuous music files.

you basically want one of these http://whathifi.com/Review/Naim-HDX/ (yes it plays up to 24-bit FLAC or WAV) or a cheaper equivalent edit: you can also connect it to a TV to browse and play your files via their own GUI |

In my opinion, recordings should be tracked for CDs with fade tracks that create a seamless recording when removed unless there's something like a tape flip at the disk change.

Sometimes when I'm recording I do have to cut over from one deck to another. Basically, if there's a cut on the master, just try to do the best you can with it. Quote:

Is it really that hard to figure that cutting a show up to fit on an antiquated piece technology is not a good idea. I demand we go back to making all shows fit on 2, 90 minute Maxelll tapes.

Rider, I'm sure Billy agrees with you about the cassettes.
I stopped splitting shows to discs 2-3 years ago. CDs are dead. Personally I play the Flac's on my iRiver h120. When I am at home I use Cog on my Mac Mini that is hooked up to my TV and speakers. |

I'm sorry but for years many have been horrible with properly splitting a show up. I archive shows I go to & usually provide copies to the artist/band since I'm friends with them anyway. I would never give a poorly split cd. No excuse to not take the time to do it right.

depends... If you are a trader, you definatelly don't want an mp3 cause there ain't much you can do with it. Ie. I still trade and therefore don't want any mp3's. If you d'load it for your purpouse, I supposse you don't mind.

Simple no fades, only recommend when someone releases a show for them to create a set list saying:
CD1 ...list of songs..... then CD2 ...and the remainder. Makes it easier to be recognized on CDDB (if someone uploads the data) if one standard is made. Then let whom ever downloads it add fades and such if they so wish. |

sorry redbull but I do both. I keep a digital copy for local PC listening but I actually burn concerts I like onto a lightscribe CD then burn the artwork and setlist onto the CD's.
