i was actually contemplating dropping the $60+ (after TM rape) to see Manson on the basis that he'd be playing mostly pre-EMDM stuff, but if it's half new stuff, i may just skip out on it.

lol yeah exactly.

He's got some mental issues...so at times it's a little awkward, yeah. But he puts on a good show, if you really like his music and his story, it's pretty cool to get to go see him play on stage. You can tell he enjoys playing his music for people and I dunno, this sounds retarded but it's just "pure"...if that makes any sense? And emotional. Not really sure how to describe it, but anyone who likes Daniel Johnston should definitely see him live at some point.

On another note, the DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist show...a little disappointing. Kid Koala was awesome, but the songs they chose for the DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist thing were pretty shitty (a lot of them were, some were good though)...and like Mark pointed out there wasn't really anything spectacular about it. One dude would find a record, start the loop, the other would do the scratching and mixing, then they'd switch off. Nothing that either one of them couldn't have done on their own, and the music was just kind of generic. I enjoyed it at times but mostly it was just meh. Oh well.

Well good luck! Hope it kicks some ass...

On another note, we got tickets for Mark's folks to go see The Asylum Street Spankers (this band we love that we had stay at our house back in Novemeber) and they loved the show, even got to meet them all and talk to them after the show. They got some DVD of theirs and got it signed by all of them - they even remembered us and our dog, saying he was fluffiest dog in the world...lol That made me feel all special I hope they come back soon.

no bonnaroo this year?

2/9 - vast
2/15 - chris rock
2/15 - pegboy (late show)
2/16 - wilco
3/1 - badfish
3/8 - nofx
4/1 - EITS
4/18 - Saul Williams
6/12 - 6/15 Bonnaroo

still on the fence about Manson, as well as Rush.

Velvet Revolver was actually pretty fun the other week. Seeing Slash and Weiland live even if its not in their original bands, is still worth it.
Speaking of which, Wyclef at HOB was soulful and amazing. That man is a great musician/artist, despite his work not always being my cup 'o tea.

Unfortunately, I can't make Les Claypool @ the Vic.

If you're up for a road trip, you should try to go to the Claypool show in Wisconsin! My friend's band is playing there (Right Wrongly).

No, no Bonnaroo cuz a.) Bonnaroo is starting to kinda suck (compared to other fests) and we've got a lot of shit happening this year. Festivals take up so much thought/energy/money/planning. So But oh well. We *might* hit up All Good in WV depending on how much money we have and how many good bands are there.

hmmm....i'm always up for a road trip, especially to wisconsin, but that night doesn't work for me either. Is your friend's band opening here in Chicago too?

Really? Is it the lineup or just the fest itself you feel is lacking? Personally, I enjoyed Bonnaroo more than SXSW, Reading, Fun Fun Fun, Pitchfork, or the last 3 Lolla's....not to mention Area One, Warped, and all sorts of other small "fests" I have attended over the years. Then again, maybe it was the people I went with to Roo that made it so fun....or the drugs.

marilyn manson was a lot of fun, but i will say a few things:

-this was hands down the UGLIEST crowd i've ever seen. yowza.
-i don't know what it is about chicago crowds, but getting us involved in "audience" participation is fucking rough. there were some songs that deserved way more fist pumping and yelling back. you could tell that manson wasn't too thrilled with the way people were responding, but there were big cheers after every song.
-the show was only an hour long. : / however, they opened with Great Big White World and did a pretty good job of covering all the albums. a very healthy amount of Antichrist was played, complete with the podium and a bible that was lit on fire. shockingly, Heart Shaped Glasses is amazing live, and i freakin' HATE the studio version. it came across very Bowie, and i was very glad to see them do it so well. Rock n Roll Nigger also a nice treat.
-manson played with his dick a lot. like, a lot.
