How about NAS ? or Eminem ?

gotta give Snow credit though. He's still selling his wares & doing his "reggae-rap" thing after all these years.

Eminem, Tupac, and Biggie are sure great and the last two have already gone down in history, but personal faves are Eminem, Tupac, Tech Nine, and Ludacris [ http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif]

Ice Cube - the man behind the lyrics for NWA and Eazy-E, not to mention his own solo albums - Amerikkka's Most Wanted is still one of the best rap albums ever.

Chuck D - even though he collaborated with others (Shocklee) on his lyrics, his voice not only rung the heads of black youths, but also an intrigued white youth. It Takes a Nation of Millions and Fear of a Black Planet are two of the best albums ever - period.

Mike D (Beastie Boys) - again, the man behind the pen - he's responsible for most of the Beastie sound and lyrics - Paul's Boutique is up there with the PE albums.

Tribe - all talented, but Q-Tip and Phife have the voices that soothe and cool the senses. Simply - musically inclined poets.

Honorable Mention:
LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out and prior.
Run DMC - One of the most influential rap groups ever.
Eric B - simply great, but hardly ever mentioned.
De La Soul - along side Dream Warriors and A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul was a pleasant alternative to gangsta rap - 3 Feet High and Rising, and, De La Soul is Dead are both easy to listen to.

Liarsclub....I hear ya'. The B-boys have best selling rap album of the 80's, obviously they were doing something right.
"Could you be anymore white" what the fuck does that mean...what about the people who said Eminem!!! For god's sake at least the Beastie Boys don't get made fun of and had the respect of the black hip-hop community.

I love the Beastie Boys to death, but they couldn't rap their way out of a paper bag.

That's like saying "I love The Smashing Pumpkins, but they couldn't play their way out of a paperbag". As I said they must be doing something right....Anyone who takes 4 years between albums and still has as strong a fanbase as they do....come on. Listen to Paul's Boutique and tell me they can't rhyme (or rap).

I think Beastie Boys lose skill points because most of their rhymes are fucking giberish, don't make sense, and aren't really saying anything or telling a story like other superior rappers do.

Still, they have good beats and production. But what is this topic really about, best mc skills or best rap group overall...?

Debaser...you gotta point, but nowadays all rap sounds like fucking gibberish. Back in the days of PE and NWA....they had pretty much a common theme to each song. Fuckers like Ludacris & any other rapper in the last 7 years(Can't stand) make no sense. I love Tribe Called Quest, but there about the blakc equivalant to the B-boys when it comes to rappin about nonsense.

Sorry, i forgot to mention Tupac...he's alright and his songs stick with telling a story for the most part.
