lol do you read it to your hell-spawn/childemon?

i think that's the only stuff of hers i have encountered that I went

i only read a couple of the real/unreal stories, i think. there was one called sur, where a bunch of south american women get to the south pole first. it's fucking awesome. ursula subverts everything.

I read the first one. The kidemon will definitely have a slightly altered view of the world probably due to someone trusting us with a kid.

About halfway through Neuromancer. I love it. Exactly what I was looking for. I have some LeGuin on deck.

Should I go with "left hand..." or "dispossessed" next? I've only read "lathe of heaven" by her

i don't know why neuromancer didn't grab me.

isn't lathe of heaven great? what a total mindfuck! i love the turtle aliens.

both those two you mentioned are really, really good. but if i had to pick one, i would go with left hand.

“Light is the left hand of darkness
and darkness the right hand of light.
Two are one, life and death, lying
together like lovers in kemmer,
like hands joined together,
like the end and the way.”

I'm a sucker for dystopian future Tokyo where it's always raining and everything is highly stylized and crowded and neon re:Gibson

I'll go with left hand next, thanks.

Also want to track down John Shirley's "eclipse" and Effinger's "when gravity fails"

I'm reading a Hank Williams bio, despite not being a fan. (It was like $4 on clearance and I like reading about music.) The book is heavy on the minutiae of recording sessions, but it does a decent job of painting a picture of the music industry at the time.

I wouldn't recommend it but I'll finish it.

Cool

"O Lord Most High, Creator of the Cosmos, Spinner of Galaxies, Soul of Electromagnetic Waves, Inhaler and Exhaler of Inconceivable Volumes of Vacuum, Spitter of Fire and Rock, Trifler with Millennia—what could we do for Thee that Thou couldst not do for Thyself one octillion times better? Nothing. What could we do or say that could possibly interest Thee? Nothing. Oh, Mankind, rejoice in the apathy of our Creator, for it makes us free and truthful and dignified at last. No longer can a fool like Malachi Constant point to a ridiculous accident of good luck and say, ’Somebody up there likes me.’ And no longer can a tyrant say, ’God wants this or that to happen, and anybody who doesn’t help this or that to happen is against God.’ O Lord Most High, what a glorious weapon is Thy Apathy, for we have unsheathed it, have thrust and slashed mightily with it, and the claptrap that has so often enslaved us or driven us into the madhouse lies slain!"
