I just listened to HMM for this first time in maybe 15 years and I take it back, it ain't all bad.
I'd forgotten half the song that wasn't Bill repeating HMM over and over. That bit is alright. Still a terrible lyric and the song goes on and on.

Both the MII versions are interesting sonically but... awful. It wants to be the new Low record.

And that's 3 more versions of this song than we needed. Curious as to how it gets re-appraised.

If Billy Corgan worked with the guy who produced the new Low record, we might actually get something adventurous and interesting

but also, Loki Cat is the most beautiful thing this side of Stellar that JC/BC have collaborated on, studio-wise in the past 15-ish years

And then perform it with a Mormon choir live on TV?!
I think he probably did intend to record it at one time (as these seemed to be the core A-list of the initial Teargaden batch of songs), but he either 1) got sidetracked, 2) wrote what he felt were better songs that replaced it (Spangled, My Love Is Winter, etc), or 3) lost interest in the entire Teargarden song-by-song process before he even got to the song.

The other thing I found interesting about the boot was that before Freak, he states that it's about Sky Saxon's beliefs and worldview. I don't doubt that Billy has some pretty ballsed up beliefs, but maybe I've judged him a bit too harshly on some things.

lol. I am not sure if you like the new Low record or not. I actually like the spacey HMM with the underwater-ass bass tone.

I will have to listen to the Low record again, but honestly on first two spins it sounds like someone just going ham on a filterbank and it pisses me off.

It’s the sonic equivalent of someone rubbing a spade back and forth across your face.

I like the new Low record. I like how the HMM versions are produced. The song itself is a fucking dirge.

It was probably their most powerful performance of that song...so it made sense to incl*ude it.

The performance is absolutely fucking incredible and I love that they edited it and released it, it rules. But still, keen to know how out of 40ish songs he landed on that one for a greatest hits comp.

Probably one of the songs that came out the best in the footage.

I would guess they picked Fuck You for the DVD because it's an over-the-top, shockingly heavy performance of a fan favorite, and the plan was for the Metro DVD to follow soon after. Even in 2007, Billy was still saying it was right around the corner. It was likely meant as an enticing tease without giving away the meatiest parts of what would sell the DVD
