I actually thought he is singing like a black man on many songs on Speaking In Tongues. So I was thinking the opposite about Byrne.

Also Ezra and Sting both use corny Jamaican accents on some of their more tropical sounding songs. It's not hard to connect the dots between V.W. and the Police at times.

Do you seriously believe there was nothing calculated about the Ramones?

The whole matching leather jackets and matching haircuts thing kind of makes it obvious that the Ramones were very calculating.

there is no such thing as not being calculating. if you are uncalculated then you have calculated to not be calculated.

I had never thought about V.W. being Caribbean or anything like the police, but now that I think about it, I guess they are.

It's true that they're a bunch of rich white boys appropriating black music, but at least it sounds good, you know? I know lots of guys locally in New Zealand who have tried and it sounds fucking terrible. If it doesn't sound terrible, don't complain.

It doesn't sound good. At least with Talking Heads it was more or less a tribute to worldbeat, Vampire Weekend is just shit all around.

ah they're fun and it's good workout music, I don't think they're going down in western music's hall of fame as groundbreakers or anything.

I mean helloooo you are posting at an sp website with ninsp as a username so I'm thinking you're not some paragon of good taste or whatever, to be judging vw as shitty

it's not that his material is bad, it's more that it's not completely funny and I feel like he's talking down to me the whole time

kinda makes me wonder, now that I type it out, if those would be netpho's main complaints about me.

I've never really given Vampire Weekend much of a chance... Maybe I haven't checked out the right stuff.

Can anyone give a me a few of the universally agreed upon best songs to check out on Youtube?
