This is not a rhetorical question loaded to the brim with opinion, by the way. I am genuinely unsure of how he's perceived by the average voter.
Unclear. He is very popular with progressives obviously, but most Democrats are not progressives. Despite the Democrats trying to sabotage him in 2016, in the end it was unnecessary because he got millions less votes than Clinton.

He has done well in Iowa and NH so far, but those two states don't look like most of the US, so we'll see. Also, he won significantly less of the vote in NH than he did in 2016. This could be because there are so many candidates, but it's worth noting that if you add up the share of votes for the moderate candidates, it's way way more than Sanders.

but I also think that most Democrats will vote for whoever the nominee is (based on survey info this seems to be the case), which is a different attitude than people had in 2016

Bernie is coming out ahead in polls against the other candidates... double digits too. He also has the best numbers against Trump. Looking good for Bernie.

Cool

I'll admit that's mildly impressive

But true man of the people Tom Steyer got the endorsement of, and performance by, none other than the non-dead members of TLC
