What is this butt-rock of which you speak? I thought I heard of all genres but this is a new one to me. Point me in the right direction with your pointy stick.

This one is legit tricky though, took ages for them to click with me, especially cause i'd come from the angle of "oh if you like ISIS you'll love Neurosis" but they are VERY different beasts. I think I found my way in through the cluster of albums post-Times Of Grace (so like, A Sun That Never Sets -> Given To The Rising) and worked my way in from there. Of course, a commune with weapons grade volumes of psychedelics and Through Silver In Blood really tightens the bond.

I like ISIS. And I saw Sumac.

I tried Neurosis with Silver in Blood a couple of times. Just didn't connect. But I will have to try again. Drummer is in SLEEP, yes?

There are several bands that I feel like I should like because I like all the stuff related to them, but...

Bon Iver. Fun in concert, boring on album.

At the Drive In. I love Mars Volta, but don't care for the former.

Damien Rice. According to my brother, I'm supposed to be entranced by this guy.

The National. I can take a few of their songs, but I don't think I can listen to them for more than 10 minutes before I turn it off. Strangely enough, I really love the guy's solo stuff.

And according to every human being in the world, I'm supposed to love Journey, but I don't even feel bad for not liking them. I practically loathe them.

I might just be the farthest thing from it. But what you mistake for nihilism might be my narrow, exclusive views on certain things. Sometimes that same sentiment looks like elitism. Sometimes it looks like conservatism. Sometimes it just makes me look like a member of some subversive counter-culture movement... and then I say something like that which makes me sound like a mix between a punk and a hipster. A punkster.

What are we talking about, anyway?

I thought someone called Dust and Ashes might be into nothingness.

Kinda like a FoolofaTook would be a hobbit. Silly me.

Sorry to disappoint. It's actually a Bible reference to the book of Job and is referring to humbleness... which is something I lack.

IN YOUR FACE!

But if you want to talk about Nihilism, I'm all ears. I miss debating philosophy and I never understood existentialism like I hoped I would, but I do enjoy the paradoxical nature of it.

Oh, and Weezer. I never could get into Weezer. But apparently I fail at life because I couldn't get into Weezer.

I've been unsatisfied with my current musical wanderings and missed my old online community where I used to talk about music and discover new (or old, but new to me) stuff. My old message board was a Smashing Pumpkins place, but it's gone now. I remembered hearing about Netphoria as "the other guys" back in the day, so I thought I'd check it out.

I just miss talking about music, honestly.

Welcome to the board

I have one to add

Bjork... Man is she ever cute as a button, and I know people who love her music but it almost seems a little to erratic or something for my tastes.

Thank you!

In Bjork's defense, slight insanity is part of her selling point. If she ever went sane, people would shrug her off, so she has to really sell herself on being weird.

If you want to like her, maybe try listening to CocoRosie and then switching to Bjork. She'll seem much more tame and fully functional by comparison.

the most interesting thing about bjork is her stalker who mailed her a bomb and then killed himself on camera

Yeah, I saw the dateline special on that. That was fucked up. Sorta didn't like how they gave him a platform and showcase though, because he was obviously filming it with the expectation that it'd be broadcast and they ended up doing exactly as he had wished... But I guess he was already dead at that point, so what does it matter.

That's definitely true, but I always enjoyed her work that was more "generic" for lack of a better term.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check her out

I'm faaaaar too squeamish to watch a suicide video. I accidentally saw the Bud Dwyer suicide and still haven't shaken that image, years and years later.

it's not that different, same method and everything. this dude is just psychotic and he psychotically psyches himself up before he does it

i've seen uh, my share of suicides. i'd give it a 6/10 disturbing. dwyer isn't as disturbing except for you see all the blood and stuff. lopez falls out of view of the camera. the bad thing about dwyer is it seems like he wanted to say something but he wasn't able to because of everyone approaching him

Oh man I really can't imagine a 10/10 disturbing, then! I can watch the goriest of movies and not care, but if it's real I can't bare to look.
