speaking of, I just realized this song is a style-parody of marley's "buffalo soldier"

the style-parody's were unofficial parodies, like how dog eat dog was basically a parody of talking heads' "once in a lifetime" and a few other songs mashed together

and mr. popeil is a b-52's style parody

I don't think I ever got that either.

I remember the moment I realized what it means to be "stuck all alone in the gas station of love and I have to use the self-service pump" though

here's another great unreleased parody. michael thought the message of the song was too moral to be diluted by a parody.

yeah the idea of the style parodies was over my head until much later. I had never heard the vast majority of the artists he references sonically when I was into him.

this is probably the most famous unreleased parody

paul mccartneys live and let die as "chicken pot pie"

paul wouldn't allow it because he doesn't eat meat.

what's cool is that weird al could do any parody he wants under parody laws but he wants the artists permission (not to mention they get paid by him which necessarily doesn't have to happen by law - al's a good guy).

for the longest time i only knew the parody versions of most songs and not the originals. to this day i can't hear "girls just wanna have fun" without thinking the lyrics are "wrong"

Coolio was a pretty big dick to him. I know he has since apologized but he honestly made Al feel like shit over a misunderstanding when the dude goes out of his way and far beyond his legal obligations to do his parodies tastefully in with permission

how does a guy sample an entire song, make a song, and then get mad when someone parodies it? the math isn't there.

it would be like if the guy who added "and many more" to happy birthday tried to get in on the happy birthday lawsuit

IN - 3D

Has anyone considered how "Slime Creatures From Outer Space" from the next album is easily the sequel to this song?
