ITT you recommend a band you like, describe them, and post similiar artists
one thing ive always liked about netphoria is that quite a lot of you have very good music taste. theres only so much you can tell from the weekly top 10 artists or what are you listening to threads, so in this one you can recommend however many bands you like, give a little description, and mention some similiar artists. ill go first.
band: tapes 'n tapes similiar to: modest mouse, pavement, clap your hands say yeah description: clap your hands say yeah is probably the most similiar band, they have the same fast and catchy feel to them with a singer whose voice doesnt intentionally crack. hooks are addictive as hell and their only LP, the loon, has something everybody can listen to. |

Damien Youth
http://www.damienyouth.com http://www.myspace.com/damienyouth The All Music Guide describes Damien Youth: A mysterious cassette-only artist who began putting out material on tape in the late 1980s, although some of it started to appear on CD in the late 1990s. His music is haunting, acoustic rock with a sense of British whimsy akin to Robyn Hitchcock or Donovan (although, as his tapes were distributed from Louisiana, it's uncertain whether the singer is British). It's solid, melodic stuff that would most likely appeal to Hitchcock fans, despite the sparse production. His BRIDE OF THE ASYLUM CD of 1998 put some of his work into slightly larger circulation, in better fidelity. — Richie Unterberger he's also inspired by beatles and bowie and can sound like things from the saddest singer/songwriter the weirdest psychrocker. he has shitloads of material. |

The Redneck Manifesto -
Love this band. Could imagine alot of people on here liking their stuff. Irish Math Rock style guitar band. More laid back kind of battles etc. vibe. This has links to their myspace and website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red...anifesto_(band) |

Thomas Truax (pronouced troo-aks) is incredible. i can only describe him as a kooky, mad-scientist version of Nick Cave, probably living in a dark and dingy basement in Silent Hill.
whilst many agree that his personal appearance and song writing bear many immediate similarities to Nick Cave, Thomas has totally created his own musical world which he takes with him wherever he performs- although he plays guitar predominantly, he invents and builds the rest of his instruments out of junk, some of which incIude a beloved analog drum machine named Sister Spinster which is made out of bicycle wheels and radio aerials, among other things, and The Hornicator, an old gramophone speaker which he uses as an electronic microphone/echo box. others incIude The Backbeater, a pair of mechanical butterfly wings, and The Strin******, which is a brilliantly bizarre papery tubey thing that Thomas lights up in the dark to look like a giant blue glowing worm; The Strin****** also serves various musical functions. all in all, Thomas Truax is simply one of the 5 best, most unique songwriters and performers you've never heard of. i'm honoured to have met him last week. www.thomastruax.com http://www.jilltracy.com/images/Truax.jpg http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/onemusic.../truax_mv1.jpg http://www.thomastruax.com/Images/sp...rnal/bath1.jpg http://www.thomastruax.com/photos/BB...mVanRooyen.jpg http://www.urbanimage.tv/watermarked/truax1_dg.jpg Last edited by Izzle : 10-09-2006 at 06:30 PM. |

band: cold war kids
similar - the walkmen description: i remember there was a thread about the walkmen not too long ago, but these guys sound a lot like them, especially with their edgier songs. they have a new album out called robbers and cowards that i havent heard yet, but ive heard their two EPs up in rags and with our wallets full where most of the tracks on the new album come from. while they do sound a lot like the walkmen, their toned down tracks seem to separate them, tracks like robbers, hospital beds, pregnant, and expensive tastes show a more controlled side that make them worth a listen. they toured with the figurines, tapes 'n tapes, and sound team earlier in the year i believe. |
