new fuckin radiohead record due in June
i will piss on radiohead!
http://consequenceofsound.net/2016/0...ve-ever-heard/ that description is a bit of a red flag for me though - i hope it's not going to be a record that only aims to be weird, bleepy and incoherent. still though, super fucking excited for this |

Pissing on something you're excited about sure is a strange reaction.

I wonder if this is gonna be some sort of Hooverphomic-type orchestral rock.

Or I mean I'd be okay if they just literally made "Kid A 2" with that title and everything

What's pretentious about folk music other than the fact that you don't understand it?

Rajasthan Express is the band, ben tzur is the composer, and greenwood produced it.
I think you're giving radiohead a little too much credit, as if johnny greenwood invented this or something. |

Fair enough - but yea it will give a lot of exposure to the project. You know how some idiot fans of bands will buy anything.

I have tickets for one of the Roundhouse (1,700 capacity) shows in May. I hope the album is good.

i just watched Junun the other day actually. in parts.
It kinda blew my mind how random it is for some israeli stoner guy making indian music in India (there are plenty of those guys fwiw) to be able too hook up with Johnny Greenwood and Paul Thomas Anderson. |

bleep bloop? are you refering to kid a/amnesiac style stuff?
cos there are many words that come to mind when one seeks to define this sound (such as senescence or visceralitude) but none, i repeat NONE of these words is bleep bloop. motherfucker. |

I hear they are releasing a box set called "Radiohead: The Bleep Bloop Years." It has a lot of outtakes of bleeps and bloops that didn't make it into the final songs.

I just realized that I still haven't listened to Tomorrow's Modern Boxes.
Most of his side-project stuff doesn't sound super different from Radiohead. Atoms for Peace was, like, funkier Radiohead, I guess. You can hear the difference, but if it were released as a Radiohead album, I wouldn't say "this sounds like a different band," I'd just say "oh I guess this is the style of this album because all of them are a little different." The Eraser was pretty Radiohead-ish, I'm guessing the reason it was a solo thing was because Yorke made it all on his laptop, so it would be weird to put the entire band's name on it. |

i actually liked the bloopy stuff and King of Limbs quite a bit, i think it has some great moments - but i just hope they swing for the fences this time, rather than insist on limiting themselves to unseen parameters and not showing their splendor. spectre was great. but either way, i'm really curious to see where they go went this time, and that's something you can say about very very few bands these days

I hope it has moments like in Airbag where the dry magisterial riff and its wet perverted twin recede, leaving chemtrails, and there's no sound left on the whole dark earth but a gigantic set of sleigh bells, chiming undaunted a jazz funeral for every christmas, before the next, even spookier verse begins

I didn't think King of Limbs was that weird or out-there for a Radiohead album.
Haven't listened to it for a little while, but wasn't most of it more melodic than Kid A/Amnesiac? I don't remember anything like "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" or "Treefingers." Also, since Radiohead's thing is to just drop albums without much announcement, does anybody else have a suspicion that the manager said "June" so that they could surprise everybody by releasing it like next week or something? |

i can't quite put my finger on what makes King of Limbs underwhelming, but it very much is.
i've grown to really like that record - there's some great stuff on there. but something about the way it's produced, maybe, sounds very small, unremarkable, and tinny. it definitely felt like much more of a Yorke solo record than other Radiohead albums - especially considering the best song on the album was him with a looper pedal. for better or worse (probably better), this upcoming one sounds like much more of a group effort. |

KoL has some good tracks on it, but overall it doesn't sound to me like it has much overarching vision compared to the majesty of In Rainbows. It sounds more like the band recorded some songs in a few weeks and threw em together on one album regardless of how they fit together.
It's definitely not as experimental or bleep bleep bloop as Kid A or Amnesiac, but I agree with teh b0lly that it sounds small. I'm kind of tired of anything minimalist from them as well. I want something that sounds huge and expansive |

If you believe the whispers about it, it certainly seems like they're thinking bigger than they were during the KoL sessions. I think that'd be a wise move, from both a creative and a sales standpoint. Time to be a little less self-indulgent and get back to making great Radiohead songs. I honestly don't know if I could tolerate another aimless, go nowhere effort ala Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. Yes I know that's a Yorke solo album but I just get this sense that stuff akin to what's on that album is the only kind of music Yorke and Co wants to make anymore, and it's getting a bit tiresome. I'm not expecting or hoping for them to turn into another U2, but just give us something...ANYTHING that resembles pep. Shit, I'd take another In Rainbows.

to me it sounds like thom taking reigns and pulling 60-70% of the load himself. i have no info to base this on, of course, but the hunch i am getting for this upcoming record is that they feel more rejuvenated, and actually seek to make a meaningful statement this time. |
