Each album gets worse and worse so that we can better appreciate the previous one

fool proof plan, if your plan is to never sell records ever again.

i've been saying this for forever. howard is all over the adore reissue as well. he's not at fault here.

too bad, I'm only whispering it.

no, I do not know who does what in pumpkinscamp these days.
nor do I know what you mean with "all over the adore reissue."

there's the original Flood stuff, the original Weinberg stuff, then comes whoever mixing (since Willing is only credited as one of 5 assistants on that reissue), then comes Weinberg mastering, and somewhere before that Matt Walker wanks all over it. I can't tell who is to blame for what.

Topic slipped to 5th page and is the only potentially decent thing on Billy's release schedule.

MACHINA REISSUE UPDATE

May 23, 2014

Looking forward to the eventual reissue of a restored and recompiled MACHINA, work has begun on transfers from the original 24 track tapes, as well as a host of select live shows. The effort will be unprecedented for Smashing Pumpkins et al, as Billy Corgan has indicated plans to put the album not only in it’s original and intended double/triple album sequence, but has designs on commissioning new remixes of all materials as well. The intention he says is clear: to present MACHINA in the original form in which it was written; or in his words, ‘as a theatrical narrative.’

Other possibilities of coalescing the story exist: including the addition of extant materials such acoustic alternates, re-contextualized soundtrack pieces, and use of spoken word to create an immersive experience.”

“I’m also not opposed to asking current artists to participate, singing songs as such on the compositions meant for other character’s voices,” Billy adds. “Finishing what the band started so long ago, and we just didn’t have the strength to end.”
Commented in April:

Quote:
"And on the MACHINA question, unfortunately there's a dispute going on with the label. So for the time being, the reissue is being held up."
UNPRECEDENTED EFFORT.

I'm squinting really hard at today's memorabilia update and trying to take it as a sign they want us to remember it's still coming at some point.

I'd like them to remix and remaster the Machina 2 tracks so they don't sound like the equivalent of your posts.

I gotta agree with Fool here. The lo-fi production is essential to Machina II. It's not even nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I doubt that anyone who complains about the production enjoys listening to anything even remotely lo-fi, regardless of what it contributes to the aesthetic.

When I'm in the mood I like lo-fi M2. Other times I just think it obscures the material. Blur pulled the same thing off with 13, but the songs don't sound tinny and distant. What's the harm in having a clearer version? It won't suddenly delete the shitty rips of M2.

It's really not that Lo-fi, it just seems that way compared to typical sp album over-production.

Yeah, lo-fi isn't over-producing a track so it sounds like it's playing from blown speakers in another room while you vacuum the carpet.

It has discernible static throughout! I think it's intended to be 'experimental'

Yeah but that experimentation is an aesthetical choice. They spent a lot of money making it sound like shit.

Lo-fi is just turning up and playing with what you have, cheap and low quality production.

That's the diffference as I understand it. There's a balance and M2 tips to the point where it no longer compliments the mood of the music and just obscures songs that would sound better with mainstream MCIS-style production. On songs like Real Love it doesn't service the song at all.

i figured the difference between lo fi and sounding like shit was that you could actually get good production out of shitty equipment if you knew how to do it?
