I don't want to rag on people that make playlists or mixes, but after I've made a mix I never want to listen to it again. They're gifts for other people. I don't get playlists. I am also elderly.

assuming you're talking about this kind of metallic hardcore that i just posted an example of, i totally get that

a friend of mine who is in a hardcore band toured Cuba before the Rolling Stones even did and apparently the audience didn't know what to make of it mostly. they thought they were going to get some kind of Iron Maiden type band as that was probably the hardest thing they ever heard

i am flexible, i listen to my "loved" playlist a lot, especially in the car (but i have a bad habit of skipping interminably). I have a couple of playlists that i work on generally and just shuffle play. i listen to albums too. depends on my needs.

an obvious one: Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place. With its detuned synths it reminds me a lot of mbv

The Besnard Lakes - Until in Excess, Imperceptiple UFO

Butterfly Explosion - Lost Trails or the Turn The Sky EP...

As someone's said, Pinkshinyultrablast, i love their first album most.

If you like repetitive droning shoegaze, check out Loop.

@Took: I really like Alcest too, seen them live twice.

besnard lakes haven't checked in on them for years, didn't know they went straight dream pop
saw em at a small club when they toured that first record that had some sabbath-style riffs on it, remember them being really affable, good-natured band but i was drunk AF

wish i could remember more of it

There are a few playlists I've made throughout the years I like to come back to, but for the most part I use playlists to listen to songs I am into in the moment but know the rest of the album isn't very good or shit like that.

and yeah giving playlists to people. I guess it might be considered sophomoric to gift your friends mixes in your late 20s but I still think it's a nice thing to share, and I wish people would give me mixes/playlists more often

I send mixes to my friends still sometimes and I am not even in my 20s anymore, nothing sophmore about it

I dunno ime ppl like getting it, it saves them having to find music and sequence it for themselves

Then they can listen to it while they read reviews for a new washer/dryer, or while they're washing/drying clothes, or dishes

Or vacuuming, taking out the garbage, commuting, etc
