Hawk's the best. "Some of my best friends are white people."

Watched FWWM last night; I get why people hated it. Way too gratuitous and overlong, but I definitely don't regret it. Just failed as much as it succeeded.

yeah, watching it through this time I am really really loving Hawk, and it seems like Lynch and Frost use Hawk to kind of offer explanations for the Black Lodge and the supernatural shit happening in Twin Peaks.

We have several souls and some walk in dreams... or in the land of the dead... makes sense in the context of the Black Lodge doppelgangers, or the "Laura" from Cooper's dream, who is stated to be the cousin of the Man From Another Place. Cooper asks her if she is Laura Palmer.

"I feel like I know her but sometimes my arms bend back."

She is some sort of representation of dead Laura that is not wholly connected or separated from Laura's living self

something else that has struck me in my rewatch is how short a time it takes Cooper to go off protocol. Despite the apparent seriousness with which he takes his duty to the FBI, he is only in Twin Peaks 4 or 5 days before he is interrogating a man being held by a para-police secret organization. A week in and he is gambling with FBI money as a cover in a totally inappropriate and probably illegal vigilante operation in a different country

That woman is too glamorous for Twin Peaks. It's probably a one eyed jacks thing

Well this season doesn't only take place in the town of Twin Peaks.

also rbg you can add another one to the dead cast list, 5 now if you count Bowie.

Coop cares about doing good and getting the job done. He's all about by the book, but I always got the sense that if a case troubled him enough he'd do whatever it took to see shit resolved properly.

Season's going to feel way more like FWWM than the series, for sure. I don't have a problem with it being dark, but I do hope Lynch doesn't neglect the quirkiness and offbeat humor that helped to make the characters endearing.

I have a lot of respect for Lynch and I trust his vision. He's had nearly 3 decades to think this through... and he of course knows that a lot of fans of the show missed the humor and the soapy quirkiness in FWWM. So we'll see.

Also Frost is involved which should hopefully give it the Twin Peaks balance that was missing from the film

Bowie didn't film any scenes for the new series though. The guys who play Bob and Pete both died in the 90s, probably some of the older secondary characters are gone as well.

But the Log Lady, Doc Hayward, and Albert have all died since they finished filming

Seems like Lynch did this just in time

Harold: I grew up in Boston. Well, actually I grew up in books.
Donna: There's things you can't get from books.
Harold: There are things you can't get anywhere. But we dream they can be found in other people.

No matter how many times I watch this series I can't follow too much of the lumber mill/Packards.

Truman's actor is one of the very few who elected not to come back. the role's being filled by the character's brother.

I managed to (illegally) get both Twin Peaks seasons so I can catch up to watch season 3.

Hopefully I can pull it off on schedule.

Suggestions on how to make it easier on yourself and trim the fat:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CLRxpsvUYAATupW.jpg

This gets passed around a bit but I offer counterpoints:

-After James leaves town, skip EVERY SINGLE SCENE that involves him and his meeting a woman and getting wrapped up in his own little murder mystery. None of it is relevant, it's all poorly acted by nearly everybody present and it's very fucking stupid and painful to watch

-Also skip everything involving Little Nicky being adopted. Equally inane and stupid and borders on slapstick.

-Skip everything involving Ben Horne re-enacting the civil war. Same. All you need to take away is that he grows a conscience.

That'll probably clear out a good few episodes less horseshit to deal with. It's amazing how this show goes from that good to that bad.

I'd watch the Fire Walk With Me movie, depressing as it is. Lynch said it's important to go into the new season with and previews have shown the trailer park guy from Deer Meadow.

Very much looking forward to the new season.

A few years ago a friend had a Twin Peaks viewing party where he screened both seasons back to back. It takes something like 27 hours. Many of us made it all the way through with little to no sleep which was...interesting.

Edit: Found this https://www.bingeclock.com/s/twin-peaks/ - He put on FWWM as well.

i'm not reading this thread to avoid spoilers, but i started rewatching this last night because i think i only got half way through season two a decade ago. man, the corny theme music that keeps repeating throughout each episode dates this show more than hairdos/fashion/technology.

I think the chart is pretty good overall. There are definitely good parts of every episode. Anything centered on Cooper/Truman and the central story is almost always good. My advice to new watchers is try to watch every episode. If you get to a point where it just seems too bad to entertain you, read a synopsis. The last 5 or 6 episodes get good again so don't skip that far.

I was trying to get my friend (who likes David Lynch) to watch Twin Peaks and he only got to episode 5 of season 2 and said it got too bad to continue. I was like what. Lynch and Frost were still involved with the show at that point and I don't know what the drop in quality he perceives is, but to each his own I guess.
