Have you read "The Secret History of Twin Peaks" that came out late last year?

I read The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer about 6 or 7 years ago. Alright read but it didn't really add anything to the overall mythology of the show.

nope. I was hardcore into Twin Peaks 5-10 years ago and sort of burnt myself out on it. Never seen Missing Pieces. I will probably do it before the new episodes

Red face

for some reason my parents let me watch Twin Peaks when I was in fifth grade. I remember it was on Bravo channel in like '99 or so. I think most of the sexual violence stuff was over my head, but I was obsessed with it. I got my parents to rent Fire Walk With Me from Blockbuster and we watched it together and it was like

similar I was allowed to watch it when it aired, I was def. too young, if I had to guess I "understood" maybe 10% of it? Never rewatched FWWM after seeing it in the theaters back then (because I was utterly terrified) and didn't watch Missing Pieces because somehow I assumed it might ruin my ridiculous love for Twin Peaks.

For whatever braindead kid reason Joan Chen was a bird to me. A literal bird. I thought she was leading a double life, as bird on these trees, watching the others, and as Josie Packard.

Specifically this bird

haha I'm honestly not on the FWWM hate train. It doesn't really hold together great as a movie, but as an addendum to the series it is crucial. Also there is some important stuff in FWWM about Cooper's fate. If you like the series, the movie is worth watching carefully and "studying"

I like the whole beginning segment, but it just ends and it almost feels like the murder of Theresa Banks deserved its own entire movie. I think the most disappointing thing about FWWM to people is that there isn't much of the humor of the show.

Rewatched the series a couple of times and never managed to get totally rid of my kid interpretation.

Her being a bird and Doctor Jacoby being the mastermind behind everything is a far cry from what other people see when they watch Twin Peaks, I guess.

Watched it as a kid but didn't remember much of it, including who the murderer was. Had a rewatch lately and appreciate it more than ever, barring that shitty midpoint of Season 2.

I have somehow never seen FWWM and am aiming to remedy that before the new season drops.

Also Lynch has said that The Secret History Of Twin Peaks is Mark Frost's version of the story. It was a fun read but I don't expect much of it to matter to the new season.

I've been contemplating reading this book, avoiding it because I didn't want to find out what happens to certain characters within the last 25 years but from what I've heard about the book it seems like there are no spoilers in it and because Lynch had nothing to do with it, it's more like "The "Alternative Facts" of Twin Peaks".

Should I read or avoid Shadaloo?

there seems to be some misconception about the Lynch/Frost thing... David Lynch has always insisted that Mark Frost is responsible for AT LEAST 50% of the world of Twin Peaks. If it came out of Frost's mouth (or pen) it's canon.

I doubt there would be many major spoilers for the upcoming season in the book, but it's definitely not some alternative version of Twin Peaks

Yeah sorry, I kind of rushed/incorrectly worded my post. I know that Mark frost was and still is definitely integral to Twin Peaks, but I have read a few things from fans that say there are contradictions in the book as to what happens in the series/ movie.

I will still most likely read it.

And for what it's worth, Mark didn't have anything to do with FWWM

however he cocreated and cowrote this season and was there during filming, so you will find bits and pieces of his solo work in the upcoming season.
I wouldn't call it really contradictions, together they simply went another path than he did in the book.

I still can't make up my mind if I should rewatch FWMM or not. If I do I might ruin my kid love for it. Like when you do a relisten of an album you loved in 1992 and haven't listened to since then. The chances that is comes anywhere close to the appreciation you had for it then are slim.

I say you should rewatch it because..

“the story of Laura Palmer’s last seven days (FWWM) are very important for this.” - David Lynch, Showtime TCA Winter Press Tour 2017.

the other day Lynch said he will never make another movie. Take that as you will. Could mean he will do more television, could mean he's done with film altogether. He also confirmed this is, as of right now, the end of Twin Peaks and nothing else is planned.

A whole bunch of the actors have dropped dead even since they finished filming

To clarify: a lot of the inconsistencies in the book have to do with dates being off, which is leading a few folks to assume we'll be dealing with a parallel reality where things happened differently, or some such. That all seems intentional and fine and dandy.

The parts I wonder about are more in line with Frost's explanations for a lot of stuff. He outlines in no uncertain terms what the lodge residents, Bob, the Giant, the Man From Another Place, etc. really are, and the explanations just seem to fly in the face of the kind of thing Lynch would normally present. If there's one thing I don't expect Lynch to do it's explain shit outright. So that's why I think that stuff's in the book; it won't be covered at length in the show.

It's a worthwhile read, not saying it should be totally disregarded or anything. You'll find out what happened with the explosion at the end of the series. There's also going to be another book in October called The Final Dossier.

rewatching the series. every time I see it I pick up on different things.

Cooper: Do you believe in the soul?
Hawk: Several.
Cooper: More than one?
Hawk: Blackfoot legend. Waking souls that give life to the mind and the body. A dream soul that wanders.
Cooper: Dream souls. Where do they wander?
Hawk: Faraway places. The land of the dead.
Cooper: Is that where Laura is?
Hawk: Laura's in the ground, Agent Cooper. That's the only thing I'm sure of.
