The Dark Tower - 3/5
Didn't think it was as bad as I was led to believe, it was a mostly acceptable corny blockbuster movie. Whatevs.

I just think people expected more than a corny blockbuster out of it.

I don't have a horse in the race, it's just that I don't think the source material deserved the Brendan Fraser/The Mummy treatment.

Speaking of steaming piles of disappointment...

I saw Alien: Covfefe a few weekends back. A major step down from Prometheus, which is saying a lot. Some cool Alien action sprinkled throughout, but the characters were flat and dull and my god, did the movie really need to screech to a halt so Bassfender could play flute with himself?

A very generous 6/10

God damn I am addicted to Food Network. Not constantly, but it comes in spells. This year I've watched Next Food Network Star, Worst Cooks in America Celebrity Edition, and Dessert Games. Why??? At least I got over Chopped and Cupcake Wars. When in the throes of my anorexia I had it on ALL the time. Still love Top Chef though because Padma Lakshmi <3

I enjoyed Top Chef until it became a commercial for Glad plastic wrap. Pretty entertaining for a 'reality' show, to a point.

Yes people love calling something "the worst thing ever" when it doesn't meet their lofty expectations.

logan lucky - B.7

fun heist movie, nothing more than what it was supposed to be. sometimes movies like this that don't take themselves seriously end up less enjoyable specifically because of that approach, but this isn't one of them. not a movie that needs to be seen in the theater, but worthy of a stream/dvd watch.

Much like the Terminator films, they really should've stopped at 2.

Wish they had delved a little more into the mythos behind Pennywise (in the end, he's just...kinda there for no real rhyme or reason; thus he lacks the raw monster gravitas of say, Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees). Regardless, you will root for these Losers.

B+
Idk if I'd be spoiling anything to say more but It doesn't really have an origin in the book either

I'm a little baby when it comes to jump scares so Idk if I'll even go see this as much as I like horror novels and I drag myself to any Stephen King adaptation it's another case of I hate movies

Wyatt Earp (1994)

this 3hr behemoth came out a year after Tombstone and wasn't well received like its pulpier predecessor

but uneven pacing and all I thought it was a more interesting film and found myself completely engrossed in following the man's life made into legend and the abandonment of typical 3 act story telling was refreshing felt like watching a fictionalized biography

this, was one of my dad's favorite westerns when i was a kid, along with Tombstone. i remember the VHS tapes. kind of an odd choice to watch now. someday i'll watch some westerns too.

IT - 4/5
I liked it overall, there's some hella scary moments. But unfortunately they abuse jump scares in a way that put me off of it in some spots.
It's better as a teen drama than a horror movie in some respects. Cast is really good.

Alien Covenant

this movie could have been condensed down to 10 extra minutes at the end of Prometheus. the only interesting bits explain what happened to Shaw and David. Which itself was disappoint

what a fucking waste of a film. i rate it lower than Alien vs Predator. And lower than Jason Vorhees vs Alien, even though I think that was a video game and not a movie

20th Century Women

i mostly liked this one. But there are a few things about it that really bothered me. The biggest problem with this film is that it is a story about women told from the perspective of a man. It has a good cast, with Annette Benning getting top billing. But despite the fact that the 3 people getting the most screen time are women I appears to fail the Bechtel test. Every fucking conversation the 20th Century Women have is either with or about the male protagonist in the film.

Props to Gretta Gerwig who is now one of my favorite actors. Her character was so familiar to me (from my teen years) that I felt like she was riffing off people I grew up with.

in hind sight this is so fucking annoying that I think in another week or so I'll say I didn't like the film at all
