He didn’t. Misunderstanding.

But that second album of theirs did.

I actually thought the second album was their best one. Years ago a band I was in at the time opened for them and Longwave. I’ve met and or played with some douchey bands over the years but both bands were hella nice folks.

who else thinks it is farcical that bill does not plan to use vasily kafanov for artwork for the machina reissue? the art was such a defining element of that album, arguably moreso than any other pumpkins album. and for the reissue he's just going to.. go in a different direction? i thought the mcis reissue art was really cool how it built on the original. i can't fathom a good reason for not going with the original artist here.

what a butt.

My group of friends still really enjoy Stellastarr’s debut, we saw them live and they were supported by The Killers - but the follow-up was a big departure, this slower, obvious Cure-pastiche. They deserved more success from their debut I guess. Crazy how The Killers blew up a few months later.

Oh wait, are you talking about engineering? Or mastering? Or did you confuse the two?

Greg Calbi mastered the MGMT, Baroness and Interpol albums. Not Dave Fridmann.

He did indeed mastered the Flaming Lips albums, and agree they are too loud. But otherwise the production is great.

I'm running a pair of ADAM Audio A7X's in a professionally treated room. Listening to have quality sources. Might not be the greatest out there, but good enough to infer an opinion.

Baroness sought out Dave Fridmann because of his well know recording technique. He records very, very hot. It's not a loudness war, post production mastering thing. I had never heard of Fridmann before 2015. When he (and the band) ruined the Baroness records in the studio I went down the rabbit-hole on trying to figure this guy out.

Then it's strange you would post their DRs to defend your position.

Go listen to Clouds Taste Metallic or Boces or A Dream in Sound or Pinkerton.

I have never liked a single Flaming Lips LP from both songwriting and production standpoint. Bad Days is a banger of a song, though. Being an Oklahoma native there has been the strange irony because I have met Wayne Coyne a bunch of times.

I guess if you don't dig the Flaming Lips, you probably won't dig his production style.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you're saying he's legit, I trust it, since your mix or mastering or whatever of Machina is the only one I listen to anymore

unless soniclovenoize was able to break in & steal the tapes from the Machina sessions, there was no remixing done for that compilation, good as it is!

hey y'all that ain't no got darn MIX it's a well-made compilation! maybe some light mastering was involved to keep the consistency between sources but that ain't what people're talking about when they speak of "mixing"

I think this is for the same reason the only live content (aside from the DVD, which was an obligation at this point in the reissues) on the Adore reissue is just that streamlined acoustic session, and other quieter songs. You ask fans what they like about the Adore era and that full band and the new arrangements on the euro tour will probably come up. Well Billy doesn't like the amount of improvisation they did, and clearly has a problem in retrospect sharing credit with anyone, so all that cool stuff got left out of the reissue. Someone else with a name people know worked with him, and therefore they need to be frozen out. This is a guy who got angry someone asked about Eric Remschneider recently

It's been 21 months since this IG post. And close to 21 years for this reissue.

21 years

Do we really care anymore?

The WPC Facebook posted a pic today saying “working on Machina reissue” with a pic. So maybe the reason we haven’t heard from Bill on ig is cause he’s busy finally finishing this thing.
