Default i'm building a gaming PC

or, my friend who owns a computer shop is building it for me. I just bought all the components. what should i play first? i've never been able to play modern games while they are still modern

cpu is ryzen 3600x and video card is amd rx 570

I was thinking Witcher 3 first? my favorite game ever is fallout new vegas. generally like cyberpunk over fantasy but def rpgs, not too much a fan of multiplayer and i can't do mmorpgs because i get addicted

Witcher 3 was hard for me to get into at first but it’s a quality game. The writing and storylines are pretty much 10/10. It helped when i realized geralt (the titular player character) isn’t your run of the mill stonefaced bro who wants to pump iron slay beasts and do it with elven lasses, even if he comes across that way early on. There’s actually more complexity to his character than those old terrible tropes, and u also get wide latitude in terms of how you roleplay him and the choices u make. Also it sounds like it will look unbelievably good on your machine, and this is a game as im sure you know where the graphics are in some areas just astonishingly nice and detailed.

So in sum i would endorse Witcher 3.

Not going Intel/nvidia? Your computer store friend is not your friend.

i mean he's been doing it for 20 years and it's also supposed to be a general workhorse for my business, and also around $600 for everything (motherboard, cpu, gpu, case, power supply, ram, ssd)

so let's call it a budget gaming pc

cool thanks. i've never been able to have a machine where i could do high settings on graphics so i'm looking forward to it. i played witcher 1 on my current laptop and the game play was a bit wack but i heard 3 is very good

I might take a day off of work to play Cyberpunk when it's released.

I would recommend Nier: Automata if you haven't played it yet.
It's a weird dystopian sci-fi game about sad androids. It's one of the more unique and moving stories I seen in a video game.

It has some anime bullshit in it but it's definitely worth experiencing in my imo.

It doesn't really depend on the successful build of a gaming computer, but you may enjoy Pathfinder: Kingmaker. This is another crowdfunded RPG, but much more similar to Baldur's Gate than Fallout. It is based on a system that my casual eyes cannot distinguish from D&D and interestingly allows you to switch between turn-based and real-time combat.

With the beefed up system, another idea is to get older games with updated texture packs or modifications for lighting and weather effects.

oof, yea. that one definitely stood out.

now that i can actually run most games, i find that i don't really like about 98% of what's out there? i wish they made games for oh i dunno, adults.

i enjoyed Control and Doom for a short while.
Katana Zero doesn't command a powerful pc at all but it's easily the most fun i've had playing a game in many years.

I’m a little tired of hearing how great AMD processors are lately.

Being fair about it, they’ve earned the praise...especially with Intel getting their own ass handed to themselves with a lot of recent missteps, but they still wreck AMD in single thread performance. That’s like the one good thing still going for them.
