True. Does someone have the quote where he mentions that the SITS songs are his C songs?

Or maybe Kerry said that, I can't remember. I know we all thought the SITS versions were just "rough" versions of the songs, which would explain (a) the simple and repetitive lyrics, and (b) the simple and repetitive song structures. And yet the studio releases are identical, other than maybe SFAS. |

Not seen this before.
Anyhow, SfaS pre-dates the Spirit's tour, which is maybe why it is a bit more developed. |

besides it cutting off after the first solo, the vinyl version(from the vintage vinyl 7") of song for a son is amazing. It does the song justice.

the song ends after the first solo? Is it different in any way, or just sounds better on the vinyl?

1. Song for a Son -75%
Good first impression, but the weight of the song is too much to bear on repeated listens. This is the only objectively good song and I wouldn't mind hearing it live. 2. Astral Planes - 55% The guitars are very cool and the drums aren't too bad. It's got a good vibe, but Billy takes this solid base and reduces it to mediocrity with his vocal performance. 3. Teargarden Theme - 45% Seriously, who cares? It's a bunch of noodling made up to sound important and trick you into thinking Teargarden is going to be "epic". Long does not equal epic, and instrumentals do not equal good. 4. A Stitch In Time - 20% Really terrible, generic, grating, repetitious, all the things I don't like in a song. I can't remember anything about it other than the lack of drums and the repetitive arrangement that sounds like Sky Saxon masturbating. 5. Widow Wake My Mind - 0% There is nothing good about this song. It's the worst song I've ever heard, bar none. There is no magic up in this bitch. |

I really do like Song for a Son, I quite like Teargarden theme, and then it kinda jumps off a cliff afterwards with Widow, Astral Planes, and Stitch. Astral Planes has potential, which is the worst part of it. It's like a promising young song cut down in it's prime by terrible lyrics and basically 30 seconds of repetitive riffs over and over and over without anywhere to go. The guitar solo stuff is pretty good but it's like "ah! a moment of good in a sea of lame" Stitch is boring and Widow is terrible.

it seems that the 45 doesn't have enough length for the full thing so it fades away as the vocals come back in. I think the sound quality and warmth of vinyl suits the song better....it gives it more of a 60's feel |

I was going to say "they all suck" but I think A Stich in Time and Astral Planes are ok. The drumming is just awful though when you think about what it could be.

1.- Song for a Son of a b... : 60%, the studio ruined the song, sounds a lot better the first live plays.
2.- Astral planes (everyone sucks!) : 50% good guitars to get high, terrible lyrics, awful vocals. 3.- Stitch in time : 30% too folk to me. 4.- Teargarden theme for windows 7 : 20% zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 5.- WWMM WTF : - 10% too happy hippie for me. in general... the first EP SUCKS! |
