now I have an assignment for you, of course. a best-of-2016-films list.
Since Men & Chicken is still my favorite from recent years, I'm counting on you to point me to another great one I missed. Or 5.
I'm going through a list of maybe-awards shit I should/have to watch, and holy shit, the last three were insufferable (L'avenir, American Honey, and Loving, although Loving was watchable. The other two weren't.) These best-of lists get shittier, or films do, or I do, but I want a list from you instead. thanks!

oops what topic is this. well, I'm gonna watch movies this year, so (I'll show myself out.)

tebholly! not movies from 10 (or how old is it) years ago, new ones, please!

but I should probably rewatch Noi Albinoi and forget about new releases.
Speaking of, I'll be going to Iceland next week, Iceland in winter. Maybe I can get to the village where they filmed Noi Albinoi, why the hell not.

Or maybe not, I'm guessing I'll find better places worth visiting.

I'm getting depressive just looking at that.

i live in the past, you see. most new releases aren't that appealing to me. i just wait until i stumble across the right ones to watch.

why are you so keen on watching only 2016 stuff? is it a staying updated thing? (not being an asshole, genuinely curious)

a bit because yea, I'd like to stay somewhat up to date, but basically the films on the lists I have to watch are 2016. I was hoping someone might mention one that is particularly good but not a front runner for the awards shitshow, something like that. So I can skip all the frontrunners I have left, and get to the good niche, if there was one this year.
Last year. damn.

I want to find the 2, 3 Men & Chicken of 2016. Without doing the work and searching for it myself.

well, at least now i know i gotta watch Men & Chicken.

it kinda sounds like a Wallace and Gromit sequel at first, but reading about it, it seems interesting.

That doesn't look depressive to me. I like to think i'd be able to live in such a small town and lead a simple life away from the comfort and excesses of the big cities.

But I really cannot.

I'm pretty sure there was an industry-wide agreement to have all the good scripts sit out the year.

That said, I can be slow to get to things. This is partly due to the small and culturally challenged country effect, where even our independents will probably be playing Moana for the next eight weeks. An equal measure of sheer human laziness does little to help the situation.

yes, and since you were thinking about visiting my lovely hood one day - that single take took about three hours and was filmed in Berlin Kreuzberg (he did that several times, first take was not a keeper lol.)
It's not something you need patience for imo, it's not a boring, long winded one-take.

apparently. although erm um not all were all-bad, really, I swear. Manchester by the Sea is watchable. (I'm saying pay to see it so I make some money, thanks.)

oh and I'm doing my own assignment in case you missed out on this: The Wailing. Was recommended to me and turned out to be my favorite 2016 film, by a mile.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5215952/

so my 2016 list so far is this:

1. The Wailing (Na Hong-jin)
2. Moonlight (Barry Jenkins)
3. Elle (Paul Verhoeven)
4. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (Taika Waititi)
5. Toni Erdmann (Maren Ade)
6. One More Time with Feeling (Andrew Dominik)

I will watch all of them except for Hunt for the Wilderpeople because that kid seems to have found his way into every third television advertisement and I'm sick of his face.

Manchester by the Sea is soon to make an appearance on every torrent tracker in town.

Yes, one take, and also a very heartfelt but rather far-fetched story made real and believable. A++++

it's a fucking whirlwind!

Didn't know you were from there. I've only ever been to Berlin once for a gig in a place called Schokoladen. Went home with a girl from another band, got pickpocketed on the way, discovered it quickly, ran after the thief, lost him, got back to the place where i left the girl and apparently the thief had already returned it to her out of remorse. had sex and went home. that was my complete Berlin experience.

Schokoladen is a nice venue, I would call that a complete Berlin experience, too. Sums it up nicely: gig, get robbed, run, fuck, go home, if there were some drinks in there as well you had a typical Berlin evening.

For any of our French-speaking membership, would the following comments strike you as sentiments expressed to the bereaved partner of a person that has unexpectedly died or does it come off more so as general responses to a Facebook profile picture update?
- Je t'aime ma Fille et nous comprenons!
- On t'aime et on te fait pleins de bisous
