Gish: Crush every now and then.

SD: Disarm, sometimes. Geek USA on very rare occasions. I need to be in the right mood.

PI: Girl Named Sandoz. Spaced most of the time. It's probably the one I find myself going to for specific songs most often.

MCIS: Nothing. There are a few songs I'm not crazy about but I can't bring myself to interrupt the flow. It's an experience, start to finish.

TAFH: A Night Like This; Tribute to Johnny and Marquis in Spades sometimes. I'll listen to Pastichio Medley once every five years or something.

Adore: Perfect as often as not. A lot of the time I'll skip Annie-Dog, listen to Behold, and leave it at that - I really, really need to be in the right mood to listen to most of Adore's back half.

MI: SIYL, HMM half the time.

MII: 3/4 of the time I'm only listening to the LP. Of that, Le Deux Machina. When I'm playing the EPs, I'll skip Saturnine (Judas O version's better), Glass alt, Soul Power, Speed Kills (vastly prefer the single B-side version), Try V1 and HMMv1.

Come to think of it, a lot of Judas O could qualify for a worst songs compilation by itself: soot and stars, winterlong

I used to skip the shit outta Silverfuck, but after hearing it on the vinyl reissue I am wholly converted to the album version of this song.

Hmmm... let's look at the good/shite songs ratio on Judas O:

The GOOD:

1 "Lucky 13" Good to have an official recording.
4 "Slow Dawn" Good to have an official recording of one of the best SP songs.
5 "Believe" Lots of love for this song so it gets a pass.
9 "Sparrow" Decent Billy acoustic track. Could've been on the Tonite single.
10 "Waiting" One of the strongest Adore outtakes.
11 "Saturnine" This was probably the most interesting track on the album.

15 "Soot and Stars" I'm rarely in the mood to listen to this, but it's got a cool Adore vibe thing going on.

The BAD:

2 "Aeroplane Flies High" AGAIN? Already made TAFH.
3 "Because You Are" The worst Smashing Pumpkins song in their history.
6 "My Mistake" An ok Adore b-side.
7 "Marquis in Spades" AGAIN? Already made TAFH.
8 "Here's to the Atom Bomb" Loses points for being the M1 version.
12 "Rock On" Utter shite. Terrible.
13 "Set the Ray to Jerry" AGAIN? Already made TAFH.
14 "Winterlong" Not great.
16 "Blissed and Gone" Ok track, but would've rather had another M2 cut or something.

Yeah. Judas O wasn't great.

Today
Bullet
Appels + Oranjes (boy this was really a hint at how shit some of Billy's song titles would become, huh)
Soothe (don't dislike it but the album is unaffected if you start with frail and bedazzled- when I put on Pisces I want to rawk)
TOASE

There was someone who said they always listened to albums uninterrupted, and I'm exactly the same. Everytime I picked up a new SP album I gave each song a chance to grow. Some took a while (TOASE), but I never skip them. Even if I know I'll probably never like the song (Blank is a pretty empty song), I'll still listen to it for the experience of the album as a whole.

Though tbh I have found myself occasionally skipping Disarm recently because it is a veggie surrounded by meat in the sandwich that is SD.

Yeah I seriously can't stand Disarm on the record. Totally brings down the mood after Rocket (and not in a cool way like Soma)

If it was recorded like this in the studio it'd be in my top SP songs:

So, like, listening to the Zero single? I "had" to listen to Pastichio Medley, all the way through, every time. It became a rite of passage or a proof of my fanhood or some bullshit adolescent reasoning.

So songs I dislike? Shit, man, tons of them. Songs I skip? Still basically none. Don't want to listen to it? Especially most of the amazing songs you guys are listing? FUCK YOU, BURN THE LIES OFF YOUR SOUL.
PM is actually really awesome though to have on in the background

also according to wikipedia it's the only song where all four members get writing credits

For me i don't dislike sooth because it's soft (the tonight disc is my favorite out of tafh), i dislike it because it's crap, m8.

This is a hard question now because I tend to skip songs that I've heard too much. Like BWBW is still good but I've literally heard it hundreds and hundreds of times, so I may just say fuck it.

agreed
song was notably jarring upon first listen but that's not neccesarily a bad thing

& somehow i never really got tired of the singles on mcis aside from tonight tonight, for which i'd say the reprise does more for me now than the album/single verz

I understand skipping Love or TOASE cause they are abrasive, or Disarm because we've all heard it a fuckillion times. But For Martha? Blank Page? You guys listen to Apples and Oranges and fucking Annie Dog and then you skip For Martha? wtf?

Annie dog sounds like he is either drug-woozy or just got done bawling his eye out. I love it.

I have always loved Annie Dog. Crucial to the mood of Adore. The only two songs I'd ever skip on Adore are Ava Adore (because it's overplayed and the verses are boring) and Perfect.

I used to like Perfect but now it gets on my nerves "purrrrrrrr fect

purrrrrrrrrrrrr fect

purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

fect

I've always thought Perfect was one of the two or three weakest songs on the album, but as time goes by, I appreciate it more as the pop song it is. And the album would feel totally wrong going from Ava Adore to Daphne Descends. It needs that little reprieve of bubblegum sweetness to keep things um.... senescent.

actually I can't really listen to Adore casually or just to hear my favorite songs or whatever. The other SP albums, yeah, but not Adore. Something about Adore doesn't work without the full experience to me. It's a journey, a story. About... heartbreak and grief and finally acceptance. You have to really go through all the ups and downs before you are ready to let go... from the mdma fueled Apples and Oranges to the fairy tale whimsicality of Dusty and Pete, to those final numbing notes of Blank Page and 17 in which you swallow the hurt, you take it inside you and internalize it, having both overcome it and made it part of you forever.
