If Carrey can do Dumb and Dumber, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and that recent one about the actor that gives his girlfriend so many venereal diseases that she kills herself, I don't see why McBride has to do his character from The Foot Fist Way in every single movie he's signed to since.

Lol well maybe Carrey was a bad example.

But if it's a hysterical character type, why change it?

I certainly know what you mean though. At first I remember thinking... "Jeesh, this Mr.Gamby role is certainly different from Kenny Powers... But then as the series rolls on it's pretty much just Kenny Powers all over again.

I'm totally fine with it though

Would you listen to a band that puts the same album out every couple of years?

Don't answer that until I'm done searching "Foo Fighters" against your username.

It's the same type of character, but the extent of the dialogue is different. That's what makes it funny and fresh.

Walton Goggins is hilarious too, for what it's worth.

He has all the new teachers standing there and he's stroking the tiger statue all creepily and then glides his fingers and holds them in the butt-hole for 2 seconds... Fuck that was funny.

fwiw, i thought Walton Goggins was one of the only reasons to make The Hateful Eight a movie worth watching. his character was top notch and a lot of it is owed to him and his delivery.

that's not true of jim carrey. it was at first (ace ventura etc). but not anymore. truman show, eternal sunshine, cable guy (most misunderstood movie of all time) are all different than his slapstick comedy stuff.

jim carrey is intentionally acting in an over-the-top way because that is how his character interacts with the world (through television tropes) and not because he's a shitty actor. and throughout the movie you dont really know whats wrong with him and generally think what he is doing is just over the top and makes no sense. but eventually you learn how he was neglected and grew up through tv shows and it makes sense. i think people just dont appreciate his trauma or dont even understand the message or just dont think it's compelling.

i mean it seems like a story about a deranged stalker stalking the main character. and in that respect it IS a shitty movie. but it's really about the stalker's thought processes and how he became so deranged and how his over-the-top behavior is actually from his trauma and makes sense and isn't just 1. bad acting or 2. not explained well

thanks for answering in detail. i watched it years ago but everything you say about it makes sense to me. i don't really know if it's worth rewatching but yeah. Jim Carrey films don't really hold up very well. maybe only The Truman Show. or Eternal Sunshine. but even that is not really because of his acting on it, more the imagery.

I have always liked Dumb and Dumber. But yeah Carrey's schtick can get tiresome fast.

yeah i mean it's not an amazing movie but i do think it's very good. like 8/10 or something. truman show is also very good. eternal sunshine i only saw once and i barely remember it. i was probably on drugs.

Did anybody else see The Bad Batch?

It suffered terribly from a case of style over substance, but you'd deserve at least an adhesive star for realizing Carrey is even in it.

I had always wondered what El Topo would look like if it were reimagined as a Die Antwoord music video and now I know.

me 2. me, geo, christine, jizzica, and deb all did up to 1000 mg capsules of dxm before going to the theater. this was the night i had just arrived after getting a ride the previous day from arizona in a mazda because i had missed my flight back to texas.

i remember lying on the aisle of the theater and being really desperate for sleep but the movie felt RIGHT IN MY FACE

can we just hold the presses here and collectively remember that Danny McBride was cast to a lead role in the last Alien film

i really, really think that hasn't been made nearly enough fun of as it should have.
it's basically like watching a parody being taken seriously and coming true

i watch vice principals because i am a fan of one of the actors who has a small role on the show as a teacher. it's not really my style of humor overall and seems reasonable that the show doesn't get more than 2 seasons. overall i do like goggins as an actor
