somehow i let the new books album slip by. did any of you listen to it? it sounds exactly like the books, and it's exactly as fantastic as that sounds.

i just wanted to say that i finally got on this train and it's blowing me away.

i could lay in bed and listen to sorrow on repeat and probably cry forever. in a good way. you know.

(for the record, i'd heard the album several times before. but now i'm really listening to it and falling in love with it.)

fuck yeah

High Violet took a bit for me too, but it's sublime once it finally clicks. Conversation 16 and Anyone's Ghost are my favorites

I've heard that The Black Keys are pretty good, though I've never taken the time to listen to their music.

Anyone wanna recommend where to start with their music?

And I've been into Gorillaz since I was pretty young.

I've heard some stuff from crystal castles, it was alright. I'm not that into the really heavy techno stuff though.

My brother loves techno though, I bought him the new Justice album for Christmas and he loves it

Boxer has higher highs than High Violet (Slow Show, Apartment Story), but it's got some tracks that are boring to me. Alligator is the best one.

boring tracks on boxer? madness. i goback and forth between that and alligator being best although now that i am hearing geese of beverly road and abel in my head i am leaning towards that.

anyone hear the songs from win win and portal 2 from last year? essential

Start off with thickfreakness. It's a great blues record.

Alligator is an amazing album. Boxer just a notch below that. I really dislike the production style of High Violet, but I enjoy it a lot too. I'm not a fan of the increasingly weepy direction they've been going in though.

suuns - zeroes qc

also, i hadn't enjoyed a sufjan stevens record since seven swans, but really enjoyed all delighted people. also, i enjoyed wolf parade's expo 86, after hating mount snoozer.

other bands with 2010 records i enjoyed:

the acorn
arcade fire
brian eno
caribou
deerhunter
dum dum girls
the fall
grinderman
land of talk
national
a silver mt. zion
yukon blonde

personal favorite vinyl and a couple tapes from 2010:

Perseo Edits 1-4 - Italians Do It Better sister label featuring illegal edits (hence the alter-eagle label with singles only released in bizarre foreign countries and imported in) such as Springsteen's "Tougher Than the Rest" from Martin Vogel and Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" by Bottin. Individual 12" singles later compiled and released on cd.

Chromatics - Night Drive 2xLP - 3rd side of "new" material (not on the cd) because the master got lost en route to the pressing plant? finally arrived back at the studio 1.5 years later?

Deep Magic - Soul Vibration on DNT records and Solar Meditation on Not Not Fun. tapes.

Dirty Beaches - True Blue & Golden Desert Sun Singles. Holy fuck.

Ducktails - two singles one on OESB and one on some other label i don't think its underwater peoples.

Edibles - Super Space/Mind Peace. Minimal solo dub. Makes Sun Araw seem like a house band. actually this is a tape.

emeralds - does it look like i'm here? 2008 or 2009 material reissued as 2xLP

james ferraro - last american hero vinyl reissue

mark mcgure - living with yourself

monopoly child star searchers - bamboo for two

opn - returnal

outer limits recordings - julie & i need my tv singles. foxy baby lp on not not fun was cool too.

sun araw - on patrol

mixtapes - hands down the "heaven can wait" 3 volume series by games (ford & lopatin)
