Netflix budget:quality rating thread
Rate a series here against its budget and help us all to avoid wasting our lives watching bad productions
List the budget, then rate the overall quality of the production. This rating incorporates judgments on writing quality, acting, cinematography, and any other relevant factors. The quality ratings are as follows: 10: will change your life forever 9: good enough for a series re-watch in 10-15 years 8: would recommend to others, even people you are trying to impress 7: would recommend to people who already watch a lot of Netflix and are nerds 6: did not leave a feeling of emptiness and regret 5: Major production issues in some areas but some good moments 4: Major production issues across the board and only one or two redeeming moments 3: Canadian production 2: Leaves you wishing you'd watched that catch up episode of 90-day fiancé instead 1: currently plotting to destroy Netflix altogether for this abomination |

Yeah, I don't know about the system we're putting in place for this thread but two lesser-known shows on Netflix absolutely worth checking out are Norsemen and People Just Do Nothing.
Virtually everything else on the platform is unadulterated garbage. |

Norsemen is kind of like Blackadder with vikings and People Just Do Nothing is like The Office with chavs.
I've already gone on about both. I know. |

If anything, budget and artistic merit already do express an inverse correlation.

Main purpose is to criticise productions with large budgets and poor quality and highlight low budget productions that punch above their weight

Please do not follow our fine member’s example here and bury the rating in text so you actually have to read the whole post to get good recs. V bad

Quantity over quality is pretty much the Netflix business model.
I do wonder about what proportion of all the extra money spent on popular things has gone directly into marketing them. |

I agree. And there's so much there now.
I enjoyed season 1 of Stranger Things, and season 1 of Sex Education. Also Dark The Last Kingdom is a good romp. Unsatisfying, insane storylines and pathetic dialogue redeemed by glorious two-dimensional uber vikings like Ragnar the Younger, and the rare treat of David Dawson actually being able to act, in one of the leading roles. Norsemen is funny and it keeps getting put on in my house but the unrelenting arse humour is a bit much for prudes like me so I've shut it down a few times. Maybe I will persist This thread is to help decide on things that keep getting recommended like The Crown and Ozark, neither of which I can bring myself to start Big budgets, decent reviews, but I'm looking for that Netpho seal of approval |

lockdown deluxe
on Netflix, under 'account -> viewing activity' you can see everything you've watched. totally fucking depressing. I went back until October 2019 and even of everything I've watched since, these are just a few. I chose mostly the good ones and a couple bad ones for good measure. from amazing to dreadful: The Tiger King - 9, absolutely unreal, except the last episode was unnecessary After Life - 8/9. loved it Better Call Saul - 8 Unorthodox - 8 Ozark - 8 Bloodline - 8 Peaky Blinders - 8 Fauda - 7/8 really good, filmed from Istaeli perspective, yet with a certain respect for the Palestinian side of the story The End Of The Fucking World = I Am Not Ok With This - both around 7 or 8, very enjoyable Paranoid - 7 Vis à Vis - 7 - goes on a bit too long, still enjoyable Sex Education - 7, solid easy - somewhat enjoyable. very American. 6 never have I ever - 6. reasonably entertaining, though with a certain mindlessness that borders on entertaining and annoying Summertime - 4 started out ok, turned really boring really fast black lightning started out as halfway ok, but turned so so bad in the last season that I didn't even watched it till the end (and I have very, very low standards). last season: 1, before that: 5/6 outer banks - part mindless garbage, part entertaining garbage. 4? the blacklist - another series that I kept watching for a while out of sheer boredom, until the boredom fully took over after only a few episodes. Cheesy. Bad. 3 Elite - 1, absolutely dreadful, hated everything about it, wanted all characters to die (still seen more than 2 seasons) |

One Day At A Time
No idea what the budget is. One of the few really good sitcoms of the past couple of decades. 8 |
