Adore was just put back on yesterday. Ur l8 2 the party m8.

And yeah Spotify is bad about putting utterly shitty nobody bands with the same names as good bands under the same entry.

Never got into Spotify but since I've bought every album Gish through Machina at least once, sometimes twice (CD and reissue) I have no problem with downloading FLAC or 320kbps mp3 copies from file sharing sites. Time consuming but a 2nd option would be to pull the original CDs out of storage and rip to wav then encode to whatever. Are people mostly interested in the easy access that Spotify provides?

I’d say so. Most new cars don’t have CD players so Spotify is a good option for accessing a big library of music via Bluetooth.

Siamese Dream is gone from Spotify for me now and I've seen others mention it...seems random.

As for originals vs remasters, I don't see the need to listen to remasters seeing how the albums aren't even that old. I have the original CDs that I've ripped to FLAC (exact audio copies) as I'm sure others have. I do use Spotify to listen to the bonus discs on the remasters/deluxe editions though since the CD set for Mellon Collie for example is like $65+ used for some reason. I guess they stopped printing them.

The mastering "landscape" has definitely changed since the SD/Mellon Collie days, but the original Adore & Machina still seem pretty current by today's standards, as far as the mastering goes - save for the thankful lack of total brickwalling but that seems to be subsiding a bit these days too

I had tried A/B-ing the originals with the remasters back when they came out, and hardly noticed a difference on a lot of the tracks but then you'd have something like "Lily" which was night & day

I'm with you on this one. I still have the original discs and vinyl from (jesus) around 25 years ago at this point. I always felt like if you bought the album, some of them several times, including gifts and such, you're entitled to download them for free. At least once or twice.

I don't really care for Spotify, it might be a millennial thing, where now even iPods are obsolete, but I honestly will buy the album used, like Adore, sd, or the reissues, and I'll rip them at a higher rate than the available downloads. I don't like Spotify because there just isn't much variety and they always push the cheapest album by the artists

The Ethers Tragic 2014 mix made me want to throw up. It was a lovely, understated melancholic guitar number and this utterly unnecessary dance beat got added to it.

When it comes to the bonus discs, I substitute original tracks wherever possible. I kept all my original discs, go to my flac rips as a main listening source, and only go to Gish and MCIS for remasters.

Seriously? I'm not sure I gave the reissue of that song a listen.
Will do so now.

Omg, you're right. Maybe it's the original demo drum loop?
Wow.... it's both Batman songs he did this too.

Yeah, I really don't think it was part of the original. I feel like it it was they'd have been called "original demo" or something similar. It's really just the original tracks with...that.

Adore dropped off for a day, followed by SD, now they're both back. Spotify is weird sometimes

SD isn't available in UK on spotify it seems. At least when I add a track to my Happn profile it doesn't let me listen to it.

I could be making this up but I remember BC mentioning Matt Walker going in and digging through old ProTools files to make his mixes for the reissues, so I always assumed that stuff was as in a draft somewhere from 1997. There’s a couple explicitly labeled “matt walker mix” but with Ethers Tragic and such I assumed he just remixed pre-existing elements. Like the alternate versions of Glynis and such. I can’t imagine someone making those god forsaken loops in the last decade.

Some of the "alt mixes" on the recent reissues have kind of seemed like accidents in picking out the final masters or whatever, tbh. I remember Bill saying something about trying to get all the actual master tapes together and from his re-telling, it seemed likely that they would pull out something that was a damn-near finished mix of a track ("Plume" without the final vocals during the solo, for example) and think they'd found the final & just remastered that one, I don't neccesarily think they were all conscious decisions in removing random parts from certain songs
