A lot of TheFutureEmbrace is pretty great, mostly because he actually tried to move away from a lot of old styles, and for that I give him a lot of credit. It really feels like a solo record, as it definitely doesn't sound like Pumpkins, aside from maybe Now and Then, which has the lamenting vibe that Blissed and Gone had... but that's a good thing. The only bad songs on there are Pretty Pretty Star and I'm Ready. Not because of the vocals(they sound decent), but because the lyrics are so... cringe-inducing.

As for Mary Star of the Sea? If I never listened to that album again, I'd be completely fine with that. All it reminds me of now is a bunch of fuckers pretending to give a shit. And most of the music is awful, too.

I don't think I'd call anything an atrocity.
Definitely a more worthwhile endeavor than Zeitgeist. Much better production and some moments of beauty.
This is it, I'd swap I'm ready with To Love Somebody, personally.

As another poster said, best thing Billy has released in the last 10yrs.

Remember The Future Embrace vs The Eraser thread? oh good times.

tfe is better than zeitgeist any day. There's more creativity and heart put into it than anything he has done since 2000.

I'd much rather listen to Zeitgeist than TFE.

Lol I do like the album, but I use it to fall asleep sometimes. Something about the way it flows at the end makes Strayz end my consciousness.

Tfe is full of songs that start out promising and then go absolutely no where.

The best material coronas written in the past decade is the acoustic swan stuff that never got recorded and released. Add msots the song to that list.

Say what you will about the album - no denying that screen was totally, totally badass. Such a cool compliment to the live performance of those songs.

Some of the songs are decent (mina , walking shade) . Other songs are putrid (I'm ready , sorrows). Its one of those albums that remind you of better albums you'd rather be listening too. Its only looks good in comparison to what has been released recently.

The last truly artistic thing he did was TFE.

It is not a great album, but a good one. I like the production and most of the songs. I also liked Billy in the beginning of this "era". At that time I thought he had some real integrity. The interviews were interesting. The diaries were cool. However, it was a big mistake to announce the intentions to relaunch SP the day TFE came out.

By that time I'd already begun to distance myself from him - mostly because of the baby blue blog in the aftermath of the Zwan breakup. But I was still interested in his music, and i thought there was hope. TFE was a decent album from a person I liked but was wary of.

I like the album but still am confused that Robert Smiths and Billy Corgan collaborated on a song and it was a Bee Gees cover. I mean, two of the best song writers on the planet and you do a cover?

BTW, that acoustic show they did in australia actually gave me appreciation for a lot of the songs as well.

I never really got that into it. It had a few good songs I liked but I found myself skipping the last minute or two of a lot of them, and some others I skipped completely. I am sure if it had come up when I just listened to the Pumpkins and five other bands I might feel differently but I have moved on for the most part.

And I have to say, I recently gave James Iha's solo album a few spins and I think it holds up much better. Not great by any means but much more listenable than TFE.

I've tried several times to listen to this stuff, but it just sounds like a boring and more over produced continuation of the stuff he was doing with The Pumpkins post MCIS. It's everything bad from Adore and Machina turned up to 11.

After the wasted potential of Zwan this was just a major let down for me.

Walking shade is a great tune! It's on my "best songs of June 2005" playlist!

same here. i see this album as a direct reaction to the "britneys of the world" fight. in this round, he actually attempts to be that pop star and fails miserably.

it's completely self-indulgent and you can tell he sunk A LOT of money into the project, which is probably why he's so gunshy about spending money on his artistic whims nowadays
