The Marked - Music Videos
=========================
This transfer is from a VHS tape I got from Ron Roesing via Ebay. The picture
quality is an improvement over the versions currently circulating from the
Psycho Tape. Unfortunately, the chroma signal isn't present for the first couple
seconds of each music video. This is an issue with the initial creation of the
tape, not the transfer.

I have synced audio tracks from the circulating "The Marked Live/Demo Oct '86"
tape as the audio is the same, but of far superior quality. The original VHS
audio is included as the second audio track.

Track Listing
================
01 - Scary Neurotic Song
02 - The Trance

Lineage
=======
Transfer: ??? > NTSC SP VHS Unknown Generation > Panasonic AG-7350 >
Datavideo TBC-1000 > Blackmagic Intensity Pro > FFMPEG > MJPEG Tools >
DVDAuthor > NTSC DVD

Video: NTSC; 4:3; 720x480; 6700kbps CBR; YUV4:2:0; Top Field First Interlaced
Audio #1: LPCM 1536kbps "The Marked Live/Demo Oct '86" Synced
Audio #2: LPCM 1536kbps Original Audio

I'm more than happy to transfer VHS tapes for anyone else. I have a fairly good setup using a pro VCR and capture card, which will handle both PAL and NTSC.

I also got a demo tape from Ron with an identical listing to 'Pumpkin Seeds'

http://www.spfc.org/songs-releases/boot.html?boot_id=74

The sound quality isn't great.

Side A says 'Gish Demos' - the i is dotted with a star like on the album cover.

Side B says 'Pumpkins'.

I am in the UK. If you post it here, I will transfer and send it back. What's on the tapes?

cool.
i might even be able to send it from london. should be cheaper.

they're all promo vhs tapes. i don't have them with me right now, but what i remember can give an idea already.
i'm not really sure what is already out there.

there's this: http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx...TAILS&item=535

there's this tape: http://forums.netphoria.org/showpost...7&postcount=23

there's a bbc acoustic thingy from '93. i think this: http://www.splra.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tsp1993-06-22
i can't remember which songs, but i don't think it's complete. i don't think this is anything new?

another tape has a couple of songs of hamburg '98. incomplete. i believe more complete sources exist, so this one is pointless.
and possibly also the same story for a couple of songs from shepherd's bush '98.

and i think i also have james iha's "be strong now" video clip on a promo vhs.

Even if the cassettes have been transferred before, or have more complete sources, a new transfer might be better quality. Especially if any of the tapes use Hi-Fi audio, the noise floor on this setup is unbelievably low; audio transfers of cassettes using Hi-Fi are comparable to lossless CD recordings.

can you transfer audio cassettes too?

Those vague tapes in more detail:

http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx...AILS&item=1492
Tracklist: Part 1 of 2 (13'02"): Ava Adore, Perfect, Daphne Descends; Part 2 of 2 (11'16"): Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Tonight, Tonight

Similar tape, not on spfreaks.com yet: The Smashing Pumpkins in Hamburg, May 14th 1998 (PAL, Stereo, Duration: 10.51)
Tracklist: Once Upon a Time, 1979

Similar PAL tape: James Iha - Be Strong Now (with intro)
Duration: 3.35

MTV Europe - Acoustic: Cherub Rock (5:07), Disarm (3:52)
Tape says "2 reels tied, see face label" and also contains the video clip of Cherub Rock. If I remember it correctly, the songs are introduced by Ray Cokes.

If you don't mind, I can send them all. Then you can see if they're worth transferring or not. I have no idea if any of the tapes use hifi audio. (Probably not? Dunno.)

Also available: No Alternative vhs with Glynis (live). I think that's all that could possibly be of interest.

Audio tapes: that press conference. And also two copies of NME brat pack (with spaceboy live acoustic).

I can transfer audio cassettes, but I only have a consumer tape deck. There is still a high demand for pro audio cassette equipment, and a good tape deck in mediocre condition still fetches hundreds of pounds. The right tape decks in good condition sell for Ł1000 or more. So, I'm happy to transfer audio cassettes, but it may be worth using a paid service or finding someone with better equipment. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ultimate-q...-/191036135791 This person has good decks, I don't know if they offer a reliable service or not though. It's up to you, I can transfer them if you want.

As far as VHS tapes go, I am happy to transfer all of those. The Shepherd's Bush and Hamburg concerts are particularly interesting.

press conference and 2000-05-23 are upgrades for sure. if the the 00 tape is transferred it would be rerally good to get a lossless audio rip if the the DVD is not authored with PCM audio

I will multiplex the DVDs with LPCM audio and make separate FLAC audio releases too.

On one of the tapes there is a 16KHz hiss recorded onto the audio track. I can remove this without any issue, would people prefer to have the audio as is or with the hiss removed?

This is the 2000-01-17 tape. It is a good upgrade over the current circulating editions. Higher quality video, there is also more footage than currently circulates. The audio is better than the PRO#1a source, but I don't have the TV#1 source so I don't know if it is better than that http://www.splra.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tsp2000-01-17

The 16KHz hiss is noticeable, so I have removed it as it is distracting.

Looking at 2000-05-23 right now. The audio quality is very good on this tape. Also, although lots of video for this show already circulates, I think the mix of footage is different to anything currently out there.

different transfer here: http://zombtracker.the-zomb.com/details.php?id=50111
Quote:
================================================== ==============================
This is the 2nd transfer of this particular tape. This transfer was made with the JVC BR-S525E deck, arguably one of the best decks ever produced.
================================================== ==============================

The Smashing Pumpkins
1998-05-23
Shepherd's Bush Empire
London, UK

Track Listing
=============
01 - Ava Adore
02 - Perfect
03 - Daphne Descends
04 - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
05 - Tonight, Tonight

Lineage
=======
Video Transfer: ??? > PAL SP VHS > JVC BR-S525E > Blackmagic Intensity Pro >
FFMPEG > MJPEG Tools > DVDAuthor > PAL DVD

Audio Transfer: ??? > PAL SP VHS > Panasonic AG-7350 >
Blackmagic Intensity Pro > FFMPEG > Audacity

Video: PAL; 4:3; 720x576; 8264kbps CBR; YUV4:2:0; Top Field First Interlaced
Audio: LPCM 1536kbps

This is the second transfer of this particular tape, using superior equipment.

This transfer is from a studio VHS.

This tape has a 30 second gap between tracks 3 and 4, I have left this on the
DVD. The drum solo in Bullet with Butterfly Wings is edited out on the tape.

The audio track has quite a bit of hiss, this is especially audible during
Perfect. Due to the amount of noise it is difficult to reduce it without
introducing worse artefacts, so the audio track remains unedited. It should be
noted that this noise is recorded onto the tape itself. The noise is present in
both the normal and Hi-Fi audio tracks on the tape. The higher quality Hi-Fi
track is used in this release.

The video was transferred using the JVC deck as it has superior image quality,
however it failed to track the HiFi audio track, but the Panasonic succeeded.

Thanks to Cool As Ice Cream for sending me his tapes to transfer.

Enjoy.
