Hey dudes, 1 week sober today. Feels good.

I'm wondering though, have any of you guys who were prior drunks who stopped ever been able to go back and maybe just have a few beers responsibly once every week or 2?

That's kind of what I'm planning on doing. Just go back and be able to drink 3 or 4 beers at a party or a show and be fine with that. I figure the longer I quit, the more likely that'll be cause I won't be used to being drunk off my ass all of the time.

Lost 10 pounds in a week too. I guess all of the beer every single day was getting me bloated.

I just don't think I'm down with the mindset of "I'll never be able to touch a drop of alcohol again cause I'll be right back to being a reckless drunk.

That's just what it sounds like. You try to bargain with your illness and think you can drink like a regular person. But you probably can't.

Never say never I guess, but most addicts cannot go back to drinking/using like a normal person, at least not for a really long time. Why not focus on just stopping now and then in a few months if you've really quit you might try one then? Don't focus on it right now, focus on quitting for a month, or whatever.

Yeah, that's essentially what I'm doing. I've been off the rails for far too long. I don't like the person I was becoming and I found myself in a lot of dangerous situations. I don't wanna be a drunk. And sometimes when I was super drunk I'd do cocaine. It's just not the person I am in my heart.

The thing is I just can't really fathom going to a party or a club-show and just being stone-cold sober. I have some friends that just use weed in those situations but I can't smoke weed without getting insane anxiety and paranoia.

I think if I'm just super aware and determined for the first few times that I can do it.

caffeine is a pretty nice drug if you don't drink it every day, fwiw

Making coffee (grinding it, pouring it, drinking) is part of my morning routine except not today. Today I went to my favorite bakery and had a coffee and passionfruit raspberry tart there 😊

Yeah I really don't understand that attitude. Not being able to drink ever is, in a way, just as much of a tenuous lifestyle as being a drunk. Either way, you're living in fear of a beverage.

I'm lucky in that I really don't have an addictive personality. I just get bored with things. I don't even play video games anymore cause I can't be bothered
