Kids are already endlessly entertained by watching their fave youtuber doing bad tricks with a fidget spinner.

Now every time I see this thread title I read it as a question with really dodgy grammar.

Makes me chuckle

Toys R Us bankrupt?!

Toys: No us not.

I don't really care about Toys R Us, if only because my family was always dirt poor, so I didn't get to step foot into one until well into my 20s. I went to buy a gift and it seemed like an undiscovered circle of Hell. No thanks.

BUT I am with fuzzy in the lament of automation replacing "the human experience." Only in so much that I believe every teenager needs to spend at least one school year working the counter at one of these soul-sucking jobs. It helps them develop skills that will help them later down the road, whether they stick to customer service or not. You learn how to manage people talking down to you and/or getting verbally abusive or you just learn empathy and an understanding that will help you when you're working in a cubicle with 12 other assholes. It should be required boot camp for kids.

Teenagers are actually the best workers in these settings, all the more reason not to push their potential jobs out just yet.

As someone who had to wrestle with finishing a kitchen schedule every week for a few years, I can tell you that the kids usually just did whatever shit shift you put them on and never complained and usually showed up on time.

It's those fucking adults you have to look out for.

I mean, what better way to introduce the youths of the world to the concept that the world isn't a safe place and people don't always give a shit about your opinion than throwing them behind the counter of your local Arby's?

Yeah well only a minority of these positions are even held by teenagers who work 15 hrs a week for gas money

True. My only point is that it's good character building for young adults before they are thrust into the "real" world.

Not saying it justifies keeping an obsolete behemoth like Toys R Us in business, but if counter-based customer service goes out the window, we're all going to be a great deal more socially retarded than ever as a result.

Yeah, it's a shame. Video and record stores were great teenage/young adult jobs. With those gone there's even less options. I wouldn't really recommend fast food to anyone (I worked at Burger King for a couple months and it was brutal) but a kids gotta start somewhere and the options out there are becoming less and less.
