Isn't pretty much everybody saying that this movie is more or less a direct regurgitation of one of those Robert Downey Jr. movies, but with a run-of-the-mill snake in the lead role?

Isn't every Marvel movie more or less a direct regurgitation of that first Marvel movie, but with a different lead who has a different super power?

Isn't every movie ever made more or less a direct regurgitation of that first movie ever made, but with a different human relating to some other #firstworldproblems?

Dog Day Afternoon - 8/10

Has some major pacing and tonal issues, but really entertaining regardless. Classic Al Pacino is always a pleasure and Chris Sarandon as his gay lover in transition was icing on the cake.

Kingpin - 6/10

I remember watching this a lot on Comedy Central back when I was a teenager (it seemed throughout 1999/2000, they played this on constant loop with Airheads). Looking at it now, it's kind of a slog. Woody Harrelson carries the movie, with Randy Quaid being Randy Quiad (take that to mean something something). More Bill Murray would've pushed things up another notch. It was an okay way to fall asleep on the couch on a tired Saturday night.

Dr Strange was beautiful and awesome and fun. Insane cosmic visuals. A few actually touching moments. Solid A on the comic book movie scale. Quite a bit better than Ant Man.

Don't expect most of you jaded contrarian types to appreciate it though.

I thought about it some more and I think I just don't like hot shot doctors, even after their hands are injured. Just couldn't root for this asshole, at all. Especially didn't buy that he was properly humbled, as he was still cracking wise left and right and reading all the naughty magic books he'd been specifically warned against.

Maybe I just don't like the character, dunno, I've never read any Dr Strange comix

Yeah that's the thing, he WASN'T completely humbled... in the comics he's always pretty elitist. He was able to take on heroic traits without changing his core character.

I haven't read much Dr. Strange myself, but I hear Ditko put some pretty trippy visuals in them.

Assassination Classroom: Graduation - 3/5

Not as fun and novel as the first film, this one is a bit too slow and gets dragged down by having to go into too much backstory. The ending had me in tears though.

Arrival

Moves at a snail's pace at times, but in the end packs an unexpectedly HUGE emotional punch. If you want a lesson about the circle of life disguised as sci-fi, look no further. Blade Runner II is in good hands.

B+

Doctor Strange

Yet another formulaic yet entertaining MCU superhero origin story. Some creative action scenes and visual effects. And of course, Benedict Cumberbatch.

B

Arrival - A

Didn't think it was slow at all, each scene had critical storytelling beats and information

Yeah, it was p bad. The original was no work of art, but it's Citizen Kane compared to Resurgence.

I give it a D, for dumb as fuck.

I almost rented 2 Independence 2 Day so I could get drunk and hate-watch it tonight, but then I decided my time could be better spent on listening to music, playing on my laptop and masturbating.

I might never see it. I just have lost all desire to check in with unnecessary sequels and sour franchises. I used to watch anything with a familiar name, but nowadays a lot of it just feels like cheap, empty, cynical junk (because it is).

The Arrival - 5/5

I really liked this film it was smart, touching and intriguing in equal measures. Would recommend.
I can see a lot of the people here complaining that it gets too melodramatic tho.

Sausage Party - 1/5

This film was awful, the "adult" sexual jokes wear out with a quickness and then you have to endure another hour of sophomoric forced humor... not gonna lie tho, the ending was kind of amazing.

I have had the new Independence Day sitting on a hard drive for a while now, and still haven't found the courage to watch it. The first one is a legit great dumb movie imo.
