Default The National - I Am Easy to Find

I’ve always thought the “they’re boring” criticism was lazy and wrong but hoo boy

This is a slog to get through. Glad I didn’t get tickets for this tour.

haven't listened yet. I haven't been grabbed by the singles but will withhold judgement til my vinyl comes in the mail. I seriously regretted missing them on their last tour (first time I missed em in ten years)

also I dunno if this is unpopular, but I thought Sleep Well Beast was good but by far the weakest of any of their albums from Alligator forward

My controversial opinion is that trouble will find me is their best.

Hard agree.

Alligator probably has the top spot in my heart forever, but Trouble is a head above the rest

I am also super super excited that they recorded Rylan for this album, which I have been a fan of since they premiered it live back in like 2012

also I didn't realize this until I just read the Pitchfork review, but this album is made up of mostly leftover songs.

I only got halfway through it and it feels like a Matt solo album. Or something. It’s just boring. Pretty but boring. I got moon shaped pool vibes and I have listened to that album exactly once.

Favorite song is still mistaken for strangers. And it’s not close.

after 2.4 listens I'm pretty undecided. this is by far their least rock oriented album and there are some pretty boring, almost ambient stretches.

Quiet Light tho holy fucking shit.

Yeah, I feel like this album keeps the National vibe but branches out a bit more.

I saw them open for Arcade Fire in like, 2011? I think it was. Good time. Beautiful night.

First listen standouts for me were: The Pull of You, I am Easy to Find, Where is Her Head, Not in Kansas, So Far So Fast, Dust Swirls in Strange Light, and Light Years

So last night was listen number 4, and yeah it clicked. It's a great album. They have taken their slow burner formula to the next level. These songs demand to have time spent on them before they reveal their virtues. But the more times I listen to it, the more it also just sounds like any other album by them, by which I mean that the band is clearly alive and well and operating dynamically and organically in this new package, which at first calls attention away from the way the instruments were focused on in previous albums.
