Small dogs can be great with kids as well. I grew up with pomeranians and a beagle dachshund (my parents had em before I was born) and they were the best puppers ever. I learned to love animals with intensity and abundance from them. There are some breeds which are not good with kids, like my little dude now is half chihuahua and they are too anxious for children a lot of the time.

Most important thing though is that when you get a dog, you need to have a lot of free time to train it. Anyone can train a dog, but it takes a lot of time and energy, and you want to be able to invest the right amount so that your pup will grow up to be smart and well-behaved. I'm not sure you would have enough time right now as a single parent. However, if you want your babby to grow up with a doggo, I strongly advocate adopting a dog which is not a total puppy and is already trained. This would be good for you, and it is also a great service for the dog because people generally want puppies only and aren't as interested in dogs who are older or have been previously owned.

Anything but a small dog, I say.

If the brain isn't at least the size of an apricot, it'll be dumb as shit and yappy to boot.

They're no safer, either.

I've seen a 4kg dog cause skin graft level injuries stemming entirely from an inexplicable brain explosion at dinner time.

true, the most dangerous dog i knew was a tiny jack russell terrior with a mean streak the size of australia. sent like 4 neighborhood kids to the hospital back when kids played outside

the only thing i'm worried about is the dog accepting both me AND my daughter as the owner, and the dog not trying to exert dominance over her (cuz then he would be dead). and that seems like it would be hard to with an older dog since little one can barely crawl two inches in 30 minutes atm. but with a puppy it would have spent its whole life having both of us as the owner. you're all probably right and i need to wait a while. i'm just already awake at the hours you need to be awake to train a puppy and figured that might simplify things. my parents want a dog sooooo bad and the baby and i see them a lot (understatement), so i still need to recommend a good breed for them. i'll look into it.

I'd recommend getting a cat over a dog, I grew up with 3 cats in the house and look at me today.

My parents didn't want to clean up after a dog so we had a cat.

When I wanted a dog they gave me this book and it did a good job of convincing me we were better off without one, which I think did the dogs of the world a favour

My poor kids haven't had a dog or a cat. But they've had 8 chickens and 3 rabbits. Our Italian friend laughed at us for growing food and pretending we had pets.

Patience, tenacity (your school), taste for the good stuff (food and other feel goods), some of the best of friends/loyal, good with money (Miss Coupon Queen).

But astrology is just for fun. But I do fit Pisces to every last fucking description, happily and tragically.

that's interesting. IMO cats are way worse to clean up after and are way more destructive to their environments in general. Not that I don't love cats as well cause I grew up with both, but when cats piss on the floor or claw up upholstery, you are fucked

my mom got a dog once and it would go around and mark stuff and that was not cool, stuff is super important, let's give the dog away and get a cat

the cat clawed the furniture so my mom made the inside cat an outside cat

the cat then got eaten by something

my mom let me adopt an outdoor cat once and had it declawed (i'm against that).

then it chewed through every wire in the house so she forced it back into the wild clawless. maybe it lived

With a little work, this could be a pretty good poem.

most cats are fine if you get them some scratching posts and clean their litter boxes enough. sure there are some exceptions but most of the annoying cat behaviors are really because the owners aren't adapting the environment for their pet

i can never own a cat. my love of them was destroyed at my mother in laws house. She had between 8-15 cats at any given time and never properly cleaned up after them. Or herself. I'd hear them running in a herd at 3 am and then the inevitable breaking glass of god knows what was left on the table.

soooooooooooo happy to be out of there
