Pumpkins songs that make good lullabies
I always thought that By Starlight and Farewell & Goodnight would make good lullabies. Both songs have this tired, sleepy, dreamy, soothing vibe to them. The same with Obscured and Crush.

I used to fall asleep to the few songs from Disk 2 of MCIS. Everything from We Only Come Out At Night to the end. Beautiful in particular was a good one.

It has been done, Farewell and Goodnight is on the disc. I have the CD of lullibies for my baby that is due in April. I also have a Radiohead CD. There is like 15 different bands that have been done. They are titled "Rockabye Baby". Trax include: Today, Tonight, Cherub, Galapagos, 1979, Disarm, Blank Page, Try, Soma, By Starlight as well as F&G

Would In the Arms of Sleep be too obvious a choice?
I was listening to a Chill playlist when I read this thread, sort of has a sleepy feel, and it has a lot of pumpkins: Believe Medellia Mayonaise Cupid de Locke 1979 To Sheila Luna I think a ton of Pumpkins songs work well on the lullaby front, they're one of the few bands I would think of off the bat that often writes songs like that. |

Very much so.
I think the Rockabye Baby series leaves a lot to be desired... People have already mentioned another full CD of tunes that could be on the list, and obviously some are better than others, including those already on the CD... so... whatev. |

Last night I fell asleep listening to the SP studio albums in order, as in,
Gish, SD, MCIS, Adore, Machina, M II, Zeitgeist I remember hearing the first half of Gish (because of course, I was awake), but I can't remember hearing ANYTHING from SD or the first half of MCIS. I had a strange dream where I could hear 1979, and it seemed to be going on forever, like it would never end. I woke up to hear the outro in conciousness, and then I thought, "Oh shit, what a great time to wake up, knowing what the next song is going to be..." I couldn't get back to sleep all through that, and then I got to sleep in the middle of Ruby. I can't remember anything from there until Annie-Dog. I could hear the second half of Annie-Dog until halfway through For Martha. This is the weirdest bit, because I could of sworn that I could hear For Martha before it was actually played, but maybe it was just my mind anticipating one of my favourite songs of all time. Shame was like 1979, it just went on forever and ever... and somehow it faded into the second half of Nite Mare. I felt very peaceful and relaxed when I heard the 6/8 (when the timing goes "one-two-three, one-two-three..) section. And then I woke up just before the climax of For Martha. I was almost completely asleep listening to Blank Page, but I could hear it clearly. When I was half-asleep, I found some kind of new-found appreciation for that song. It was weird to hear it in a different state of mind and consciousness. The Everlasting Gaze woke me up again, it seemed much louder than any of the music preceding it. I fell asleep again during Raindrops + Sunshowers, and I dont remember anything from either Machinas until Atom Bomb, which I vaguely heard. I woke up during the climax of United States, then fell asleep during Death from above again and didn't wake until Pomp and Circumstances. I heard that song and then Zeitgeist. After all of this I was EXTREMELY tired, what with all of the waking up during the night, and being not-quite-asleep for a lot of the time. It was very strange to hear some songs in that state though, it felt... really good. I think tonight I'm going to listen to Adore on repeat, maybe then I can hear songs that I didn't the first time around. |
