I would love to see a non-white doctor. I would also really love to see a female doctor, but I'm afraid that might be too big a risk for the writers to take

I'm honestly shocked they would go back to using an old dude after Tennant and Smith

It kinda makes sense. In the 50th anniversary episode, The War Doctor makes a jab at 10 and 11 about needing to grow up. And since he's gotten rid of the guilt from the Time War, he feels like he can act his age again. Or something like that. I need to rewatch it, it's been a while.

I was talking more in terms of it being a risky move in the face of the unprecedented success of the franchise, which is at least partly owed to the change-over to young, attractive actors and the overall hipper vibe of the show compared to the original

Michael Egan would disagree. He's the now 31 year old suing X-Men director Bryan Singer for sexual abuse when he was a teenager. There's another suit against Singer and other Hollywood honchos that hit the news today.

This should hit the news the way Penn St. and Joe Ped did but will probably follow the same type of legal arc. Singer will be finished in Hollywood as a Director and thrown under the bus along with a few others, but most in the movie pedo ring will skate, just like the names of the biggest donors to Sandusky's foundation were sealed and never made public.

Throw in the expose' of the Jimmy Savile and him basically being a child pimp to the most well-heeled and powerful in Britain, and this is why "the left" (along with pedo's on the right) are pushing for normalizing kiddy rape working through age of consent laws.

You mean 15 year old boys can't tell people who control their lives "no"?!? But they're all mature and shit. Especially child actors, thrust into the adult world so young, they must be super mature don'cha know

Ahh, yeah. They don't seem to have lost many fans with the move though, at least not in my anecdotal experience. All my Whovian friends are really excited for next season.

Anyone else notice that the intro to "How Soon is Now" is the same as The Rolling Stones "Mona"?

That F# chord with lots of reverb...

And just because it wouldn't be rape, doesn't mean it's not exploitative and wrong.
Yeah I have to agree with this... the 18 year-olds around campus look and act like fucking children. I'm not sure when it happened, but 18, as of right now, is far too young.

If she doesn't remember the aggro crag, she's too young.

They are fun to work with but I have no interest in being friends and definitely no interest in more than that. There are a few people just out of HS in my classes and at work who I might be friends with, but most of them are just living in a completely different head space than I am. I'm not quite old enough to have some kind of mentor role but I'm not young enough to be on their level so there's just some divide there I guess. I can't even imagine being in a romantic relationship with one of them. I've found myself becoming interested in friendships mostly with people around 30-40. I definitely couldn't see dating under 25 years old but there could be exceptions to that.

But what do I know, I have two friends and have been on like 10 dates in my entire life. I have a lot of work-friends I guess.

the law is mainly there to protect the youngest.
this doesn't imply that everything that is legal according to that law is all right.
nor does it mean that it's impossible for someone under 16 to have a good relationship with someone who's ten years older.
but setting an age limit is a lot easier than writing a law where one would make the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy relationship. it's not perfect, but it's good to draw the line somewhere.
if you set the age limit too low, then a lot of young people won't be protected by it. if you set it too high, the law becomes irrelevant. (people will break it all the time and it wouldn't even be frowned upon.)
i like the close-in-age exemption: it allows you to set the age limit fairly high (e.g. 16 or even 18), without making relationships between younger people in the same age group illegal.

That's more what I was looking for. Though thanks for the "OMG you want your children to sex with adults" comments, emotional ranting and anecdotes, they are also valuable contributions to the thread.

Oh come on. Don't be stupid, that is exactly what you wanted to happen. I attempted to write something simple like CAIC did but failed, but you should have been able to see the point if you weren't after something specific that you yourself could have written.
