come on dude you know that is not what it is like to be in a band. personal relationships are a huge part of a band's foundation

If you saw the Smashing Pumpkins live between late December 1999 through the end of May 2000, it is likely Pale Scales was the 1st song you heard them play live (but not always). The instrumental track was commonly played before the band would break into playing The Everlasting Gaze or Heavy Metal Machine.

err right, which is why if you want your group to last 20 years you make decisions for the good of the unit and not so you don't have to be a boss firing someone

or you go "oh well he can play the songs, he doesn't wear flannel and he likes to party whereas we like to smoke dope and jam on the beach but...ultimately we'll have to make a decision based on his musical aptitude"

i mean a musician wanted ad that read "we wear flannel and party and smoke dope on the beach" is infinitly better than any ad i've read in the past year.

it's not if you're a bunch of dudes that got together because you like MBV and wu-tang

if you're hiring a motherfucker to replace some dude it's exactly like that

nobody hires kenny aronoff because he "fits in" because lets face it, he's weird.

a guy like aronoff is just a sit-in. No one brings a guy like that in to be a long-term member of the band. I don't see why ideally a band should be a bunch of guys who treat the band like working in an office. No personal chemistry necessary, you just have to be great at your instrument! Like if you have ever read anything about really any band ever, you should know that is not how it works. A band is totally shaped by the chemistry of personalities. James Iha and D'arcy didn't even fucking play on the albums and most fans would agree their presence could be felt in the band regardless. The literal sound of the music is not the entirety of what it means to be in a band, which seems pretty obvious and makes me think you guys are being intentionally dense to defend your position. Bottom line is the others didn't think Abbruzzese gelled and he was not on board with the vision the others had (which is actually very important, again, the literal ability to play your instrument is not always the most important, or even the tenth most important thing you bring to a dynamic of other people who have to spend excessive amounts of time practicing, recording, performing, and traveling together in extreme close proximity sometimes for years without a significant break). Abbruzzese also expressed that he had similar feelings towards the rest of the band. So again, two way street. They were not on the same page, there is no reason to keep someone in your band when you have those kinds of tensions, especially when you aren't being led by Dictator Corgan but working in a more collaborative model. Not a recipe for success. None of them seem to harbor bad feelings at this point and none of them shit on each other in the press. They all handled the issue like adults.

I mean if firing someone from your band because of interpersonal issues makes you such a piece of shit, I guess nearly every band ever is full of huge pieces of shit.

They're essentially an indie band that can sell out stadiums.
