New Deftones is Deftones by numbers.

For me, top three are Self Titled, Saturday Night Wrist (which could have been up there with Self Titled if that shitehawk from System of a Down didn't ruin an almost excellent song) and Koi No Yokan. White Pony is grand but sounds a bit dated and is probably a couple of songs off being a classic.

Diamond Eyes is like fucking Disney Music and broke up a winning streak and Gore felt like a bit of an aberarion, especially disappointing after Prayers/Triangles offered so much hope. I've revisited it a couple of times and I'm tempted to give it another shot; although all of my favourite music is grower not shower (just like my peen, that's not to say its impressive after growth. Its just fucking risible before) and I've not dug it yet.

I got word from the ever reliable Sasha Grey that the next SP double a-side is like shoegaze with big muffs and jazz drumming.

I had it down as like Deftones for kids, nursery school music. My first few listens had me thinking 'these guys are the Kings of subtle, sexy, dark and cool (I don't know how to explain it, but they just sound cool. The only band - besides a satanic black metal bands* - whose merch I'd wear) and this one sounds like the one I'd play to my mum who's as big a fan of Diana Ross as I am of Deftones. That's not to Diss Diana Ross, but her music is more Disney than Deftones, but not as Disney as Take Me Down.

Maybe I should give it another go as I did have a tendency to try to not like what was popular at the time to seem cool. This is why I didn't watch a Tom Hanks film for 15 years, denied liking any Oasis songs and refused to watch Titanic which is irrefutabley the greatest moving picture ever created.

*because that makes me look edgy in hipster East London

You know, I'd actually love this

If every date of the countdown is songs in a completely different style and they did Nu-Wave first to fuck with people

Date 3: Acoustic ballads
Date 4: Blistering doomy shredding angry metal
Date 5: Electronc numbers
Date 6: Grandiose rock epics
Date 7: G-Funk

Around the Fur is absolutely the best Deftones album. Best production, guitar tones, songs (no filler). /Case closed

I can agree that Around the Fur has the best production. I prefer the weirdness of SNW, the cohesion of KNY, and the darkness of the self titled, but Around the Fur is perfect for what it is.

Imagine if Billy guested on one of the new deftones songs... god that would definitely be the worst on the album.

About cyr:
This is about as hilariously misguided as a song can get. Smashing Pumpkins have gone from making the toothless late career alt rock we all expected to... synthpop with a song that plays to literally none of the band’s strengths. Is this what Muse sounds like to the people who can’t stand Matthew Bellamy’s voice??

Muse are out and out terrible. I can't decide who I like less, them or Franz Ferdinand.

you know if they just put out an iPhone voice memo recording of 1hr 7mins of them rehearsing (including 30 minutes of chatter/setup/tuning/whatever) it would be 10x better than this shit

I hate later Muse, but their terrible current material is still miles ahead of Billy's currently material. At least Matt's voice still has some emotion in it.

If you hate Matt Bellamy's voice, but love Billy's... you just may be deaf.

yeah i'm not a huge Muse fan save for some of the earlier stuff but even so i can at least concede pretty confidently they're nailing their particular brand of lame EDM than King B & his merry cronies here

The first four Muse albums are god tier. I'd even say that The Resistance is a classic in its own way. The 2nd Law is horrific, Drones had some cool riffs/ideas, Simulation Theory is ear torture.

How many SP albums do we consider god tier? And do we count PI and TAFH when we say albums? I don’t think any of us will dispute that SD and MCIS are god tier. But what else?

Nothing Muse has ever done is god tier. The three albums after the debut are decent. But his vocals will always just be a severely over the top Thom Yorke.

Gish up to Zeitgeist are the only albums I can listen to. Everything else is just terrible. God tier SP is hard to quantify to me. Like as mind blowing awesome as MCIS is, there are some stinkers on there.

MCIS is the best album of all time. I don’t love every song on there but that doesn’t change my opinion. At least 10 of my favorite songs of all time are on that album.
