i mean the band was gonna implode and shit all over their legacy no matter what. the problem with SP, at its core, has never been poor PR or release strategies...it’s been billy’s out of control ego and penchant for alienating anyone and everyone around him including his fans. the true cesspool of his personality could never have been kept under wraps any longer than it was, no matter what.

but yeah unplugged and numetal would have been great.

Machina was the best thing they could have released at the time, mere "hints" of nu-metal (if you can even call it that) while still essentially having that "classic SP sound" on stuff like SIYL and AoI

i don't think they would have been too much better off hopping on a trend so tied to its time as their final "golden era" record

An Earphoria CD (Virgin DPRO 12694) came with the first 1000 VHS copies of Vieuphoria released in the US. It was heavily bootlegged in the years between 1994 and 2002.

By nu-metal I mean the baritone drop C guitars, chuggy drone riffs, etc.

ya, & their brief flirtations with that kind of thing on the Machinas was the perfect amount of flirtations, imo

a whole album of "Smashing Bizkit" would be forgiven even less quickly than Teargerden, methinks!

Never bought a copy of Earphoria but I still have my trusty ol' VHS copy of Vieuphoria somewhere. I don't think I've watched it since the year Nineteen Ninety-Eight but it was one of my favorite things for a long time.

SOAD is not really nu metal. That’s genre is really typified by bands like Korn,
Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park.

i.e., kinda poppy corny late 90’s “heavy.”

SOAD is a lot heavier than those bands and has rougher edges.

Could have really capitalized on MCIS as well as TAFH's acoustic songs. Can you imagine an unplugged set with To Forgive, In the Arms of Sleep, Rotten Apples, Thirty-Three, Medellia, Ugly, Tonight, Tonight, 1979. It would have been massive.
SP in pajamas like their live set with the MTV studio dressed in victorian-era MCIS style :drools:

btw are th 20th anniversary shows available online anywhere?
