just depends on the program. The project I worked on in Israel is not what I would call the most effective volunteer project I have ever seen but they were really trying. It would actually be interesting to go back now and see if it has improved since it was just starting when I was there.

Anyway, there was a background check but the volunteer coordinator accepted a guy with a record anyway because he made a convincing case that it was a one off extreme circumstance and he isn't like that. he had beaten the shit out of a guy he found sleeping with his girlfriend at their apartment. So yeah it's possible. You already taught English in Asia once, right? Would you be interested in doing the same thing again? There are many, many teach English programs in Thailand, and school is taken a lot less seriously there than in Korea (that's where you did it, right?). I know this means the programs are less legit, but everyone I know who has taught in Thailand has said the school system is a total clusterfuck and they are basically looking for Westerners to make their schools look good. Again not ideal I know, I'm just saying if you really want to volunteer in a developing country I think you could find an organization which would take you.

Yes. In February of 2016 I was hired to teach in Chang Mai or something like that. Up in the mountains where they have that white postmodern temple. but I was forced to turn it down because I couldn't get a work visa.

I just had a great experience. Got interviewed for floor cleaner at a hospital. they were super kind and suppprtive. if they don't hire i won't mind that much. it was just nice to be treated with decency. and this one lady a family friend brought me two huge boxes of food: raspberries blueberruies strawberries bread butter cheese salads chips salsa and HUMMUS.

In hindsight it wasn't that good. One of the interviewers implied that I am a fool, which is true but still mean.

Kindness and compassion can be the best masks sometimes.

Also I just realized I used way too much clorox on the tablecloths in the soup kitchen. Lol hopefully ppl will be able to eat off them.

My mom is complicated and difficult in her own way. I was 10 last time I saw my dad, so I just took (!) her word on most everything that happened before I was born/cognizant.

I wish my dad was dead. When we were in the Philippines he asked me why I don't believe. I told him God was a lie. He said that I just needed the strength, the will to believe in something that I didn't believe in.

I know you're not being 100% serious, but your parents are complex beings with their own baggage. I'm sure he believes he is looking out for you and totally not messing with your head.

My parents are on the Trinity Broadcasting Network compound in Florida for the weekend, while their youngest son is homeless and utterly destitute on the streets of Socal. Later this month they will fly to Salt Lake City to attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They are the Enemy that feeds me.
