emeralds standouts are the s/t LP and "does it look like i'm here" for newer emeralds and "what happened?" and "allegory of allergies" for older emeralds. john elliot solo "imaginary softwoods - s/t" or "imaginary softwoods - path of the spectrolite" are great. steve doesn't put out a lot of solo material - i've only got "rapt for liquid minister" and it's quite good but doesn't really stun me. |

I know this band is old hat by now, but for anyone who likes real old school prog (Camel, King Crimson in particular) this new Opeth album is FANTASTIC. A lot of people are hating on it because there is no death metal and it's pretty self indulgent, but I think it's tremendous and just what they needed to break the stasis:

Christ there are some amazing drum tracks on this, which totally surprised me cause the new drummer just bashed the shit out of everything with no touch on the last album. This is impressive.
Haxprocess is probably my favorite song this year. The ambient bits are inexplicably moving to me. |

Usually just entire discographies of any given artist. At the moment it's MBV and The Brian Jonestonw Massacre. Earlier this year it was The Beatles, Velvet Underground and Slowdive. I'd listened to Deathconsciousness more or less on repeat but I probably heard it one time too many.
