no music should be "meant" to listen to in headphones

I avoid it as much as possible

Also, Isn't Anything > Loveless.
I'm 28 years old. I live with my girlfriend in Stockholm, Sweden. I have a masters degree in 'Modern Psychology', but I'm currently studying the Swedish law part-time. On average I make approximately 51000 € each year. I play in two bands, one is a fusion of pop and jazz, and the other one is a straight out alt rock project. I've listened to the Pumpkins since I was 13, and never stopped listening. I am very open minded about things, but cannot understand all the cynicism on these threads. Are people here really that locked up in themselves? Are they that lonely, that miserable?

I like Loveless, it's an enjoyable listening experience and really just a one-of-a-kind record

Siamese Dream changed my life

I will say the first time I heard Sometimes, it was one of the most singularly amazing music experiences of my life.... like the kind of experience you can only get when you are 16 and you don't do drugs yet so the music actually stones you

pretty standard. I expected pitchfork to pull out some weirder shit for their cred, but I think this list covers the basics. That second Ride album doesn't really get the love it deserves though, and I'm glad to see it on the list

Can't help but feel like the modern-Billy hate is really seeping into a lot of y'alls assessment of 90s Billy tho

of all the tracks on Loveless, the whole Siamese Dream aesthetic is probably most directly lifted off that one song

I can see why they would do that. I don't see Siamese Dream as being anywhere near as restricted and polarised as that song, or indeed as the whole Loveless album.

Ok so I just checked and it was mostly FoolofaTook being a silly hobbit and PuzzledMuzzle being a cunt. Pretty much everyone else was just politely disagreeing with you.

Sometimes is like Mayonaise with more indie cred

I say that flippantly but it's also pretty much true. Very similar, slow, deliberate, powerful, with a lot of distortion bordering on white noise

I remember when I first got into indie/college music I was surprised at how like bands could take a song like mayonaise and build an entire album around sound like that. fwiw.

the good bands didn't worry about couching great songs in between radio hits or whatever.

i'm probably not telling this story correctly. who cares.

it's not just that, Loveless is actually just much more samey than Siamese Dream. A lot of highly revered founding indie bands are sonically limited compared to what alternative rock acts were doing in the 90s or whatever. it doesn't make it worse or better to me, but in general I tend to like artists with a lot of different sounds more than artists who cut all their songs from the same cloth

Yeah, I agree. The only reason I ever managed to distinguish the songs from one another was because of the sheer number of times I listened to it. It takes a lot longer than most other albums.
