Album sucks.

Even Tommy Lee -the driving force behind one of the rockingest rock bands ever- couldn't breathe life into it.

It really is inferior to Oceania, even though I like the main single - Being Beige - off of it more than I do The Celestials. Weirdly enough, Being Beige is one of my favorite songs post 2007.

Cool-ish little acoustic version of it with THE SHREDDER:

Only track I like is "Tiberius"
Both Oceania and Monuments both fall flat
I can only tolerate two songs off Oceania

Here's my playlist:

1. One And All
2. Monuments
3. Drum + Five
4. Tiberius
5. Anaise!

That makes a pretty good EP.

Workin on Sundays the worst, yall

That's the kinda music this is: workin on sunday music. You don't want to do it, but you have to do it, but it feels wrong so you don't get anything done anyway, just sit in the mens room and talk on nephtoria

And then your Sunday (and whole weekend) are dead and gone

I listened to it twice when it came out in 2014. Reading those blog posts Billy wrote in 2014 - about how much work and effort went into this album - made it that much more embarrassing that this was the album he emerged with. "Tiberius" has a couple cool riffs and "One and All" sounds like something the classic SP lineup could have played when testing levels before recording. The only song I genuinely enjoyed was "Anti-Hero."

The only silver lining that came from it all was that the commercial failure of the album really seemed to make Billy reevaluate what Smashing Pumpkins should be in this era. We got better shows and set lists, reuniting with James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, and a general attitude that he probably shouldn't release every fart and burp he records under the Smashing Pumpkins name.

Tommy Lee also did the drums on this pop/rock album from 2005, which is much better than Monuments

The best thing about Monuments is all the sub-bass. It's a super bass-heavy album. especially compared to Oceania. i love the way the album is mixed, hard and heavy, there are just too many "meh" songs.

also, "Monuments" should have been the single.

It's bad. Really bad. Tiberius is, like, 3/4 of the way to being a pretty legit song. The rest feel like under-developed ideas/skeletons.

I do think Being Beige is pretty OK, though. *dodges rotten fruit*

They weren't too bad. Billy really just suffered from not having any back-up vocals on that tour. In my opinion they're a necessity at this point in his career.

I thought Monuments was a pretty good release.

I thought Oceania was meandering rubbish, and found M2E a sort of return to form (as far as SP 2 goes). I think Tommy Lee did a pretty good job, and it was refreshing to hear after so many years of Byrne, and Monuments featured Billys best vocal deliveries of the whole reunion.

Songs like One And All, Tiberius, Anti-Hero and Dorian are all pretty kick-ass.

Quite honestly, I couldn't really understand the negative reaction from everyone around here regarding it. Is it is could as his prime work? hell no. but way better than anything from TBK and Oash.

TBK and Oash? How do you even know these things? Me, I'm just ashamed I even know what sp2 is.

Oceania is a far better album. but also ruined by terrible production.

It sounds like a Nickleback album.

Honestly, Monuments was what really helped me get into SP. A couple months before it came out I had discovered some of the Mellon Collie b-sides (the only SP songs I knew and liked prior to that were Bullet, Bodies, and Shame) and was digging them and when Monuments came out I enjoyed it enough to start working my way backwards through the SP catalog. I very rarely, if ever, listen to it these days but I really liked it when it came out and still find it pretty enjoyable. It's just that everything else is that much better. I wasn't old enough to appreciate them in their prime so I don't have a lot of nostalgia there to fuel any hatred for SP2.

Monuments is an important album to me, because it proved that the Smashing Pumpkins could release an album that I never have and never will give a single shit about.

lol, I non ironically still like Run2Me and it's the most reviled song on the album

it's just too cheesy and out there to be real, and that appeals to me
