I would say that 1979 is one of the Smashing Pumpkins greatest songs of all time.

"we don't even care to shake these zipper blues" sounds exactly like the sort of thing that someone would mishear a lyric to be, except that's the real lyric.

Still the one SP song that gets aired nearly daily too. Seems to be the song that's best standing the test of time as far as the mainstreams concern.

A blatant ripoff of Miguel's "Leaves". Billy should be ashamed.

That's because Billy's lyrics are just filler. He comes up with the vocal melody and then tries to find words that fit the sound.

I always thought the lyrics said one thing, but was disappointed to find out they said something else. Like I thought 'Tonight, Tonight' said "you can never ever leave without leaving a piece of you", and I thought 'wow, what a nice line'. Like even if you think your existence is pointless and you want to kill yourself or something, you will always have changed the world just by being here. I then found out it said 'youth', and I was like 'why?'.

I found this one
https://archive.org/details/tsp1998-08-21.shn but it has drums, bad mixing, and an annoying DJ who talks in the fucking middle of songs Pretty similar though, and the songs sound really good. ____________ I love how the dude thinks it's way too much effort to upload three songs, or actually note the date where they're from |

I played 1979 repeatedly this one time, at a friend's house. I'd brought my MCIS cds over and was playing them on his playstation! The old days, huh. I just had to hear it one more time, and a couple of people in the room actually had to let me know that nobody else wanted to listen to it for the nth time. It was 1996.
True story. |

Jonathan Melvoin on piano? Sounds pretty fucked, tbh. Just a lot of arpeggios and fifths/fourths. :/ Still, I wish they'd do this version again. |

Pleasure's good but Billy really did crank it up to 11 and made it something special. I appreciate other Frogs efforts more.
