maybe it doesn't. tbh I don't really know how to date. Every woman I have ever gone out with before six months ago was either someone who I already knew through friends or someone who just really liked me for no reason and pursued me aggressively. This whole getting to know a new person over a meal or an outing in order to figure out if we like each other is pretty foreign to me.

From my perspective it's more important to build a bond than to follow a "dating script" I went on a few dates where the next day we just texted a bunch and that felt right and fun, naturally leading to hanging out together again a couple days after.
I find the whole 'going on a date, giving it x amount of hours, calling back and setting up another date' routine really forced and off-putting. Whatever will happen will happen, the only times i'll avoid contact is if I didn't have a good time or the person didn't interest me.

Just my 2 cents. I'm no dating expert really.

Thank you, this seems like good advice. I think you are right that it doesn't have to be this specifically scripted thing and that it is more about connecting genuinely than following the correct "dance steps" all the way through. It was a nice time, so if she felt a spark things will probably progress naturally.

not negating what labelle said, but duh. it's like you assume girls want more out of dating you than you do them. get over yourself. you try way too hard to be some sensitive guy when you're just oblivious and grasping at meaning in a relationship (like a lion chasing a butterfly).

I have a second date coming up with that coworker this week. After a few attempts on my part to set up a second date fell through because our schedules didn't line up, I just kinda thought I'd leave it alone. Then I got a text from her asking if I'd be free Thursday, and I am. Then she was like "uh, what do you want to do?" (I was kinda hoping she'd actually pick the event but that's okay), so I was like, well, we could still check out that art exhibit and get food/drinks after.

The nearest bar I sometimes visit to that gallery is one my sister works at, and I have no idea if she'll be on shift, but I'd really rather not run into her or anybody else I know while on a date. At the same time, I don't want to go somewhere that isn't in walking distance and take public transit. I just feel like it'll cramp the atmosphere when we inevitably have to sit across from some smelly weirdo in a ball cap and wraparound shades playing his music out loud despite the fact that he has headphones on his neck and trying to do pull-ups on the hand rails.

I'm surprised the coworker still wants to go out with me, seeing as all of our last conversations have been really awkward. Hopefully being in an environment more stimulating than the staff break room will make things more comfortable. If I'm still not feeling super into her at the end of that date, it will be the last one so that I don't end up wasting any of her time.
