Default Show: 2012/06/14 - Metro; Chicago, IL

I'll be there.

e: I'm an idiot. That date is today. It should be 2012/06/14.

It will probably be shorter for sure. You know, 'cause everyone will be there to see Peter Gammons play.

Lol.

I bet he joins the band for their encore.

My first thought with this being a benefit show is that they'd be playing hits and not the new album.

That's good logic for any other band. I won't be surprised if we get Ocean, front to back.

Company of Thieves will also be playing. I love them. This is going to be awesome.

It was last night.

Same setlist from what they played in Europe, minus a few songs. We got there around 4 and were 8th in line. There really wasn't much of a line until shortly before the doors opened.

The first 3 hours of the show were pretty unremarkable, besides Company of Thieves which I already was a huge fan of (I was the guy Gen said "This guy knows!" explaining the sing-along instructions). It was mostly Mike O'malley and Joel Murray doing dumb jokes and auctioning off Cubs stuff. There were some other bands that played for way, way too long.

The SP set - I don't know if it was just where we were from the front row, but I've never heard the sound at Metro sound so bad. It was good up until SP came on. I couldn't hear Billy's vocals or Jeff's guitar at all the entire show. The performance was good I guess. Nicole was great. It's nice to have other members of the band get into it. XYU was probably the highlight. There was actually sort of a pit going during it.

Billy broke a string during Muzzle and then threw his guitar in frustration after the song was over.

Some highlights from the show

* Billy joked and said the new album is called Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
* Tonite reprise -> Tonight, Tonight
* Mike wanted to skip 1979. He played the opening drum beat to Cherub Rock than realized it was a song early
* Jeff joked that it’s Mikes first show. Billy said Mike was single and a virgin, as they joked about him playing Cherub Rock early
* After Muzzle, Billy took of his guitar and threw it down in front of Mikes drum set
* Very short break before encore
* As Billy said “bye bye” in X.Y.U., he knocked the mic off the stand

This was literally inches from hitting me. He also spit a couple times on the stage. The first time he had an "oh shit, there's no rail and i almost hit that guy" look on his face. He continued to spit throughout the show.

do you also think billy joking about the new album being called mcis was one of the highlights? and what about the very short break before the encore? was that one of your highlights too?

do you think the constant spitting was a highlight?

(apparently, those "highlights" weren't even written by monty. ha!)

Maybe some news footage. The guy that was first in line (obnoxiously) taped about a third of the show on his iPhone. I think it was a HU guy.
