i've realized that, as a country boy who moved to an urban environment - a trailer park is the only way i could cope with suburban life outside of buying a house, something i do not wish to do in this city

My husband is obsessed with Tiny Houses...have you considered that?

He would move us into an apt so that we had extra income to build a Tiny House tomorrow if I let him.

The boys and I are slowly coming around to the idea - this truck conversion changed my mind:

We can't afford to buy in this city, so buying a cheap piece of land and putting a "weekender' on it that would eventually become our house, is a good option for us.

Good for you slunk. I'm sooo tired of apartment living, but I couldn't afford to keep my house a few years ago. I've been looking into buying a trailer myself, or a little 2 bdrm home outside of town. I would like to have a 3 bedroom trailer in decent shape if possible. I'm willing to get a fixer upper.

I dunno vix... my girl is into that "get away I need my space" phase, where she cherishes her privacy greatly. I wouldn't mind a tiny house but it wouldn't work for A very well...

We already had our dream living space until the landlord decided to move back in : (

(I mean there were a couple things I'd have changed but man it was great)

Yeah I completely agree - I think it would be a weekender while the kids are still living with us, and then a place to retire in later on.

They'd be pretty easy and cheap to insulate though...

My dream home is one of those sweet boats cops always retire on in movies.

The kind you could take to sea though.

Well one of my dream home. I probably have several.

When I was a teenager. It's grand and gorgeous inside (black walnut and chestnut moldings) but still much smaller than your typical new build in the area. The street it's on has been ruined by development, though.

Now I would prefer a cottage with garden

The outside looks depressing. If you're gonna have a big nice house don't do a half assed job with the landscaping

i hope i don't jinx anything, but this morning we just submitted our application and background check info for an apartment. it's as close as i will get to a dream apartment in chicago. it's in a less nice part of town, which makes it less expensive. this place would fetch so much monies in the hood we live in now. but the block we'll be on seems to have lots of neighbors who look out for one another (there was a shooting down the road when we first looked at the place and we met several people from the block). and i love getting to know my neighbors.

it's a 2 flat and we would be on the first floor in a restored row house (separate entries for each floor) built in 1910. and it has a pantry! A PANTRY! and a dishwasher! 2 bedrooms! a breakfast nook/sunroom! and it's street-facing with a bay window in front for the cats!

i wish i could find pictures of the pantry. i almost shrieked when i opened the door because i was expecting to see a water heater or some junk.
