RBG, Candblebox is a band from L.A. that was famously moved to Seattle by the major label in order to give off the appearance that they were part of the "grunge" movement and a part of the "Seattle scene"... It was all contrived bullshit... Kind of like when Gish was released on an "indie label".

A lot of music historians point to Candlebox as a symbolic representation of when the movement turned sour and inauthentic.

that's literally not true. Candlebox formed in Seattle. The main dude grew up in Illinois

Well the whole chapter wasn't about Candlebox specifically, but more so about all the knockoffs that came after that played a big part in killing the movement.

It was just a paperback book from Blackbond books. The author could have been talking out of his ass.

Doing a google search showed this:

"The band’s sound was a little lighter than its contemporaries, too, and it led to Seattle bands going so far as to accuse Candlebox of being Los Angeles transplants."

I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't that interesting of a book... Just a bunch of facts I could have read online... This was like 13-15 years ago though.

It definitely was a "thing" and a "controversy" in the 90's that they were LA transplants though... but yeah... Fuzzy... dumb idiot again...

I just went through my bookshelf and I don't see the book either, but I'm pretty sure my friend has it and I just never got it back. I'm gonna get it back and actually scan it cause it's pissing me off now.

I dunno, I'm not finding anything with Google, but part of the problem is that no one gives a shit about Candlebox so there's nothing out there anyways. Even their wikipedia page only has a couple paragraphs.

I A-Ha'd! Sonic Jonny on not knowing that they weren't actually from Seattle and he conceded quite quickly afterwards that he was wrong... Kinda hard to fathom him doing that if the "rumor" doesn't have any weight behind it.
