Not a big fan of war movies but god damn if this wasn't a great ride. |

I remain in awe of hereditary. When *that scene* happened I just. It was the most visceral reaction I’ve probably ever had in a theater and it didn’t seem cheap at all.
And the idea that toni collette got like no recognition for that role is an absolute travesty. I’m still mad about it. |

knives out was a lot of fun and i will probably rewatch it a lot. but i agree that daniel craig's accent was a bit much. i love logan lucky and especially craig's performance in it, so it's not that i'm not used to it, i just think it was far more distracting in knives out than it should have been, especially since he'd done well with that accent before. |

Jojo Rabbit - 4/5
I enjoyed this movie more than I expected and heard people taking issue with how it approaches nazism. I thought it was fine. Some great acting by both kids and Scarlet Johansson. Also I really enjoyed Taika Waititi's Hitler, and thought it was pretty funny overall... but felt like you could remove it from the movie and lose nothing in the story. But I appreciate it either way. |

I felt Us was a bigger snub... really liked that movie
Lupita Nyong'o should've been nominated at the very least. |

Weren't the Academy Awards literally started by some bigwig movie exec who wanted to prevent filmmakers from unionizing by throwing shiny trinkets at them to make them feel appreciated?
I don't think they are really much of a metric for anything. |

Here are some quotes from a supposed Academy member that allegedly voted in 2020 and — apparently — anonymously revealed their reasoning to a tabloid:
"I want an American director to win. The Oscars is an American thing; English things win BAFTAs and the French vote for the French, and Quentin Tarantino should be honored for a great American movie." "Parasite is beautifully done, but it didn’t hold up the second time, and I don’t think foreign films should be nominated with the regular films." "[I voted for Brad Pitt] because he hasn’t won before." I get that it might be bullshit and that it's only one person in any case, but still. Who are these people and why do we take them seriously with such a poor track record? |

Remember when Crash won Best Picture?
Remember when Forrest Gump beat Pulp Fiction? Remember when Al Pacino got his Best Actor for Scent of a Woman? Remember when Avatar won Best Cinematography despite pretty much the entire thing being made in James Cameron's custom edition of MS Paint? Remember Argo? At all? Anybody? |

Particularly bad, yes. Was this what brad pitt got the oscar for? I don't follow the oscars for the reasons Buzzard just eloquently listed

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn - 3/5
This movie was fun as hell, kinda wish it had a couple less backs and forths to develop backstories, cause it was a bit tiresome and I wish the other titular Birds of Prey had more to do in the movie. Never thought i'd want a hyena as a pet. |

Barton Fink (rewatch) - 9/10
One thing I don't think I noted last time I watched this was how great the supporting cast is. Michael Lerner and Tony Shalhoub in particular had me giggling for pretty much every scene they were in. |

I've only seen it once and I barely remember anything besides everything going up in flames at the end but I always thought it was their best.
